I just wanted to say hello, and comment about how impressed I am about the unique nature in which this forum was created and is being run.

I have frequented many gun internet sites for about a year and a half now since I returned to my interest in firearms. Whereas many are very nice sites, they are all to a one almost completely concerned with self-perpetuation.

Here, however, giving back is the primary goal. It is impressive and humbling that the "names" in any industry would take their time to undertake such an endeavor.

I am a 1911 fan, so it is amazing it took me so long to find my way here. However, now that I am here I just want to say thank you for the content and commitment that is apparent having perused the site.

I now am off to read about the 1*'s people own. Mine should arrive in September :D

Kev

Welcome Kevin, enjoy the site. Like we always say to our new guests. Make yourself at home and keep your feet off the furniture. :P

Welcome to our world! It doesn't abate over time, either. Enjoy!

Ya know, this place helped make me take the step and send a gun off to have customized, and I'm glad of it. And I haven't even got it back yet! I haven't spent a minute of the wait regretting it.

Really, it was something I wanted to do for a long time, but never did. I could say it was money that stopped me before, and that would be reason enough, but that won't quite fly because there were times in the past where I spent plenty on "ordinary" guns.

I think part of my hesitation was seeing those beautiful guns in magazines and thinking they were nice, but regular guys probably didn't own them.

After seeing so many nice guns here that were owned by ordinary guys (and gals) who used them, I started to understand that customs could be practical, beautiful, and attainable. Getting my hands on the Yost Operator last year finished me off, and I had to scrape up the dollars and send a gun off as soon as I could.
I might have guessed that getting one truly nice custom would satisfy my appetite, but instead, it showed me what I had been missing.

A correction to the above: I said that the guns were owned by ordinary guys and gals.
Not quite correct. Nobody here is ordinary.
I stand corrected.

yes, part of my major problem is I have OTHER people's custom guns...

the neil keller i have posted that you saw barry is an example...it is a beautiful gun...but if I had had it made for me, I would have done things differently...

another one is a les baer i own...the previous owner had it bobtailed, a match barrel put in, hard chromed, barrel crown the works....problem is again, I have big meaty hands, so the bobtail is not for me...it is great for a carry gun, but I like really light carry guns, so I am not carrying the full length 1911 bobtailed anyway...it is a beautiful gun...it shoots like a dream, but it wasnt built the way i wanted to...i have considered selling it many times, but my friends tell me im an idiot because its such a nice gun...

my wife got me a 1* as a gift recently (or i should say, let me order one) so I am anxiously awaiting its arrival...but the more I look on here the more i am tempted to sell the baer as well, and try and get a custom gun built to my specs....
