Folks.

I have received a few fraud attempts by email from Guns America. It is only a matter of time before they get to places like this forum.

Know your buyers. The posters are getting better with their text and content.

Know your buyers and be sure to NOT give out any information you do not need to

Check the address with search engines and always, make sure check clear.

Just be careful.

Better yet...Shop only at LTW!

In my humble opinion, I think the quality of the buyers, sellers, and merchandise you'll find here would be pretty hard to beat outside our circle. I've been on both ends of many deals here with a lot of folks, and I've yet to be even a little bit disappointed. Still, it pays to use common sense when dealing with anyone for the first time, especially on a valuable, and potentially dangerous ( in several ways) product.

In a smaller community (like ours), it's not all that difficult to find out who the good guys are.

Ted is right. The forums with more restrictions and fewer and more scrutinizing clients/members there is less risk. But just be cautious.
This is from six emails on GunsAmerica. Formerly these were blantantly obvious but the text on the suspected fraud is getting better. I got one for these for each of the six guns posted.

Hi,
I'm Mr XXXX XXXXXX, an American Gun dealer.
Have been to the internet and i saw your posted gun,
i will like to know if you still have it available for sale,
also with the pics and condition and am willing to make the payment inform of American Cashier's Check or Money Order.
get back to me with the payment details, also with all the available picture.ok
Do get back to me ASAP cos have been searching for this gun for the past 4weeks.

Regard's
XXX XXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXX@yahoo.com

You show me a gun dealer that does not know payment. I will show you someone who is not who they say the are.

Again. Just be cautious. You work hard for what you have. There is no prosecution outside the U.S. and darn little outside your state. So do not give it away because of so called good deal.

On other thing. I cross posted this thread on SIG, Glock, 1911, High Road as well. Part of that larger member comment, the forum with the most members the first reply was some smart @$$ and nothing helpful.

Remember what Ted said about caliber of members, (no pun intended)

Terry,

I got a similar response from a free ad I placed to sell an exercise machine via our local newspaper's website. The solicitation was similarin that it was generic and gave no specifics regarding the item for sale. They indicated they wanted me to ship a large/heavy item across the country that I had listed as pick-up-at-my-location-only... My experience was that the responses got much more questionable and too-good-to-be-true as soon as I replied. The address/phone was fishy, and I suspect that the e-mails were originating from overseas somewhere.

Sometimes excessive trivial emails will lend a hint at a problem or even an over anxious buyer. After a while you get a gut feeling about a potential problem buyer or seller. I always ask around if I am hesitant.
