I have been on the hunt for a while and snagged a good one.... :D
This past weekend at one of the local gun show I picked up a Colt .22 conversion kit from the 1950's
Man what a prize this thing still had what looked to be some of the old oil/cosmoline on the slide and barrle and looks to be unfired :o . I could hardly wait to get it home to get it on a lower.
I'm using an old school custom Gold Cup lower that was the first custom 1911 I ever had done about 20 years ago. You may pick up that it has true Swenson ambi. thumb safeties along with an old style wilson grip safety, checkered arch MSH/ front strap and hard crome from Jim Kelly at Metaloy.
The fit of the conversion slide was snug and with some effort and JB compound I ended up with a great fit. I also installed a match bushing.
After 100 rds of ammo and a few adjustments it now runs like a top shooting 1.5" to 2'' groups off hand at 25yds. Next weekend I'll put it on the bench bag an try to get some real groups.
My goal is to have this upper fit to the complete gun that Ted has now that will be started for me some time this fall.....Hint Hint :D
Here are a few pics...

I sincerely hope this Ace Conversion unit works better than the one I owned. With mine, I was a two time loser. Why? I had a beautiful looking Series 70 Government (GM) that must have been built on a Monday using Friday parts. This particular GM was terrible and the Ace Unit was no better. The Ace was more of a spray and pray proposition. I sold the GM and Ace for $700 and I have never looked back. I hope your Ace works better than mine did, let me know. Regards, Richard :D

PS It is a nice looking combination

Good looking unit!! I have one of the CMP units they are selling for $300 (box, papers, and mag with broken toe). It is currently on top of my S 70 Gov frame. It has proven to be accurate and totally reliable. I have fired 100-150 rounds of whatever was lying in our extra ammo box and it has digested them all without fail. Lead, jacketed, whatever.

Gary, I wish I had bought your conversion unit instead of my lemon. An aside is that I have a Kadet conversion unit on my CZ75 B and I highly endorse it. As a matter of fact the Kadet is one of my favorite 22s to shoot. Have a good day. Regards, Richard :D

The Accro rear sight was introduced in 1955, and was used on conversions and Ace pistols up through the '90's. I have a circa 1950 conversion with the Coltmaster rear sight, and it is a decent grouper and fairly reliable. It sometimes goes 100 rounds without a stutter, and other times, I'll get a few failures to eject. I put mine on a chromed Auto Ord lower, I take it out for some "exercise", five or six times a year. Extractors, ejectors, and even barrels show up occasionally on ebay, and I try to get that stuff while it's available.
