Well Gents,

The day I turned 21 (many years ago now  ), I bought my first 1911, a Colt 1991A1. Mil spec, absolutely no enhancements. Here she is many years later....:

Additions:

Wilson Combat Pyramid Night Sights (Hey Chuck, they shoot great, fantastic install!)
Ed Brown beavertail grip safety
Ed Brown Hammer
Ed Brown trigger
Wilson Combat Stainless barrel bushing
Springfield Armory Match stainless barrel
Kimber thumb safety (Hey, I just like the way they feel  )
Kimber flgr
4.5 lb trigger job
Slide Cobra coated by Tripp Research
Receiver Cobra Chromed by Tripp Research
Stainless Hex grip screws

I have 7 1911's (including a TRS Thunder Ranch with the Accuracy Guarantee), but this one is my favorite and the most accurate), enjoy.

Thanks for the post and pictures, nice pistol.

The blueing wear on one of my Les Baer's is really getting pretty bad from so many presentations from leather and Kydex. I've been thinking of having Virgil Tripp hard chrome the frame, and have the slide Cobra-coated just as you did.

What has been your experience with the Cobra Coat WRT durability over time, and has it worked well mated to a chrome frame so far?

Thanks and best regards.

One word: Superb! Tripp Research gives you the biggest bang for your buck in the coating dept. and I did my homework. I called and talked to Don Williams @ The Action Works and Chuck Rogers @ Rogers Precision and they gae him a big thumbs up. Also, the turn around time (7-10 days) and customer service is second to none. I also sent my Para Ord P-13 and that was great too.

As of yet, no wear and the chrome will outlast you and me...

Man I dig your blaster but those hogues gotta go man!! Naw if you like them thats great and I am not knocking ya at all. Funny though I have a family member that would put those on a swenson with a hand checkered front strap, it is just strange to me. But I got a kick out of seeing them on yours and like I said I'm not knockin ya it was just ironic that about five minutes before I saw your post I was hackin on a friend of mine for the same grips and when I pulled up the pics of yours he was like see there's a nice gun wearing them too. Good lookin gun though did you do the work yourself other than sights and finish?

Do the work myself!! Not a chance....I'm a shooter, not a tinkerer!! I leave that to Don, Chuck, Ted, etc :D

I am good @ procuring parts @ a good price, but I leave the mechanical stuff to the pro's....I just like the Hogue's cause they stick to my hand....

It's all good....some men prefer Blondes, some Brunettes, some Red Heads.....

She is a real shooter...easily on par with my Les Baer TRS, she just isn't as tight!!

Your right about the blondes etc....

Funny you said that about the hogues my relative and my buddy both said the same thing but that thing would look awesome with a nice set of Hakan's on it. That being said I took note and it seems all of my work horse's seem to bear the hideous grips. Speaking of sticking to your hands my caspian/springer and my duty p-226 .40 both bear Burner grips from Jerry Barnhart they have the skateboard tape texture and they are by far my favorite duty grips but they'll eat your flesh in an iwb! My dad describes them as holding sandpaper but if your into gun retention you cant beat them. Kewl Blaster Man :D

What do I say? I like everything about your 1911 except for the grips. I would be looking for some nice wood to compliment a fine looking pistol. In regard to finishes I have had equally good luck with both Virgil Tripp and Ford's Guns. I like dealing with both and I can recommend both. Regards, Richard :D
