So I recently sent in my BHP to Ted for his SRT Package. This was the first handgun I ever bought some 17 years ago when I turned 21, carried it for awhile too, put a lot of rounds through it so thought it was time to give it a little TLC  In addition to the SRT package I requested Ted replace the barrel, figure its probably due, and to put on some Cocobolo grips just cuz I happen to love the look of the wood. But I am wondering while its in there if there is anything else I should have done to it :?: Im sure it doesnt need anything more, never had a problem with it once but I am feeling greedy I guess  so if it were you what else would you have Ted do or not

Ya know, Simon. I was just gonna ask the same question myself. Seems that we both sent in HPs around the same time.

bizarre...

can anyone tell me what this slide cut is for?

The slide on the 40 HP is heavier, read wider. The slide stop is the same one used on the 9mm slide whch is narrower. The "cut" is a relief to accomodate the stop. At least thats my answer. Do I win anything if I'm right?

Al, the stops are a little different. Note that the top of the "paddle" (covers the slide stop notch in battery) on the front of the 40 stop is flattened to clear the slide relief cut. The engagement arm/tab is also shorter to clear the larger 40 cal rounds in the mag. I modified a 9mm lever to work on a 40 and, due to the extremely long engagement arm/tab and the configuration of the mag follower, it still worked just fine for 9mm. Not sure if that is true of factory original parts, but it worked in my case.

The SRT package is almost perfect as it comes from Ted... and the additional "extras" your having done will pick up any lose ends :D I am still impressed with my Yo-Bo BHP, it is probably my favorite gun. Your gonna love it.

I personally am a sucker for Ted's beavertail, a tritium vial in the front sight, and a skeleton hamer. But thats just me. Oh yeah, I hear that for a small extra charge he can shorten up the reset on the BHP trigger so its more like a 1911s.

simonp, just give Ted a blank check and don't worry about it. Give it some time and it'll exceed all your expectations!

But then again, it's easy for me to say give him a blank check when I'm not paying for it!

Yeah, I agree, give Ted free rein on that puppy and you will be elated with the results!! I would add his beavertail mod, along with the shorthening the trigger reconnect distance; the trigger will almost feel like a 1911, the reset is that quick. I personally prefer the C&S Ring Hammer and Sear too. As far as the barrel, let Ted decide if it needs replacing or not. Let him know what your accuracy requirements are with quality ammunition and he will tell you if you need a new barrel or not. You will be very happy with your new HP!!

That is exactly what I emailed Ted. Now I just have to sit back and try and wait till Xmas or so

Get Ted to modify the trigger to reduce take-up and reset distances. Makes the Hi Power trigger feel like a good 1911 one.

I just finished evaluating an SRT for an article for Harris Pubs. Can't say enough good things about Ted and his work.

Regards,

Rob

Ted has my Hi Power right now and it's one of those situations where I have no idea what's coming back to me. I gave him a few "suggestions," but I trust his judgment and think he'll do just fine. I've only shot one Hi Power with a beavertail, but I absolutely loved it. The fact that it's a soft shooting 9mm makes it all that much better. My one complaint is that many Hi Power lack the frontstrap thickness necessary for checkering. In my perfect world, the SRT would be 25 or 30LPI front and rear, but that's just not happening. Since I've never shot one of Ted's Hi Powers, I'm very anxious to have that chance.

Hi Jim:

I have a BHP with Ted right now that will have 40 lines per inch checkering, front and rear. I don't know what Ted will call it, but it will be a very special, signature grade SRT package, a SRT on steroids if you will. I'll be writing a gun rag magazine article on it upon receipt, and will also include many of the BHPs Ted has built for me over the years, all of which are just a little different.

If you have a BHP in Ted's shop right now for SRT mods, you are in for a treat come "Yost Christmas Day." You will find that it becomes an insidious addiction. Practice saying "One Yost is too many, and a thousand aren't enough," for it is a chant you will learn as a "Yostaholic" in rehab.

Best regards,

SRT
