Hey Guys,
It has been awhile since my last post – but that another story. Right now I wanted to let you all know about a great experience I had with a smith I met at pistolsmith.com. Several months ago I saw a post from a smith named Marty Cardwell. It was a simple post introducing himself and letting every one know he was out there. I got into contact with him and had him do two little jobs just to see how it was to work with. I was pleased with his work and decided to send him a Colt Commander that I have had for awhile for some up grades.
I had him take off an old Kings beaver tail and replace it with a Smith & Alexander high rise with a speed bump. As a nice touch Marty machined grove in the speed bump for a better gripping surface. It also adds a touch of class. I also had him install an Ed Brown Bob-tail and machine serrations in the top of the slide. The gun was finished off with a nice bead blasting and really looks great. It also shoots just as well and the Bob-tail makes it much more concealable.
To make a long story short Marty did a great job at a very good price. I have attached several photos and you can see he knows how to work a 1911.
Marty has been working on guns for the better part of 20 years. At first it was a hobby and more recently he has made it a business. Even though he is working a full time job and smithing at night, he was very responsive and his turn around time is short. Especially when compared to the big boys. He specializes in 1911 and AR-15 rifles but he is still an all around Smith who can handle just about anything. Just to warn you he has a thing about small 10mm 1911’s, and I must admit he has me thinking about one too!!
I can’t recommend him enough, he is a good smith and a great guy. In fact as soon as I can afford it I have a Officers model with his name on it- maybe a 10mm conversion?!
Marty can be reached through his web site at

Enjoy the photos and give this guy a call you will be glad you did.
