Guys

I got one of those about three months ago to help deal with a little problem with armadillos and possums tearing up my yard, I live in the country, and the only time I get a chance at then is when I come home from shift at 11 pm to 2 am, end of shift jail run, and it is full dark. Anyway I put a little lazer on the gun and....................

IF, I repeat, IF you can hold the gun still when the round goes off, My lousy trigger control that P22 will do one in at about 20 to 25 yards (long shot at night with limited light). Daytime that is not an issue but at night limited light, Flashlight, side light from head lights the lazer was a help, but it is a real challenge to your trigger control and the red dot really shows your muzzle movement.

That is one fun gun, and it runs like a champ with most any ammo I used, especially the sub sonic hollow points. Sub-sonic seemed to be an occasional issue with a semi auto, lower recoil I figured.

Closest neighbor was 1/2 mile so I was very concerned about, back stop, richochet and a miss and not so much on noise.

Guys if you can find one and need a varmit exterminator or fun for yourself and "young in's." The gun is fun and affordable.

Have a great New Years.

I take it they have worked the bugs out of the P-22? When they first came out, they had serious reliability issues. Can the trigger be improved, or are you pretty much stick with what it comes with?

I worked for a retail firearms business and we sold the guns. No one said anything to us on "reliability" as such. We did get some complaints when using the "super" cheap, and wax tip bullets, lub would "gum" up the action, but never any of the name brand stuff. I or we always get complaints the sub sonic or hyper sonic with semi auto's as the guns are normally set for the slide or recoil speeds of high velocity and not the slower or faster ammo's. Same theory as shooting wadcutter in a factory springed 1911 and vice versa. Gun needs to be tuned, with in reason of course, to the ammo, at least thats what I have heard and seems make sense. Kind of like using cheap low octane gas. It may ping when needed, not always but there is a greater chance of it.

I have five or six bricks of multible name brand without a gun issue. I got some operator, i.e. me, issues but no gun issues. I bought about two or three boxes of stuff to get a load to match use that was a real soft lead and would not richochet. As when I shot at night I had to know the background. Day is not an issue.

One has to keep in mind how far the round goes when one does not hit the target.

I have or do not know anyone who works on those for trigger, part of my hold the gun still at 25 yards but for a gun I spent $260 on I do not expect that much out of the trigger thats what I really like about the 1911 as one has so much one can do with it. :D

From what I've heard regarding the P22, it works best with a can. Every complaint I've heard about it (at least function wise) is when shooting it unsupressed and with less than hi-velocity ammo.

I just wish I COULD get it with a can. As far as I know, suppresors and full-auto weapons are a strict no-no in Washington State.

Are there a ton of hoops to jump through to get a suppressor? If I remember you have to pay a $200 tax of some sort.

So far I have fired hi velocity, standard velocity and CB longs. No failures with the std and Hi. CB longs are very quiet but will not function the action. Std velocity sounds like a powerful air rifle. I have a laser and a red dot set up for it that I will try at some point. I wanted it for the same reason Terry did. Raccoons, opposums and the occasional armadillo. Shot a few mags through it last night in the backyard. No complaints from the neighbors!

I have a buddy who does rep work for S&W and got me the P22 cheap. The whole setup ran me $650 including the tax stamp.

The application process was pretty straight forward. 2 fingerprint cards, a form that has to be signed by the head law enforcement officer in your area and $200. The local chief signed with 1 condition. I have to bring it to the station and let him play with it. Took about 6-8 weeks from time I mailed it all off.

Those always looked like fun. They're about the cheapest way into a suppressor.

Re: Hoops to jump through:
It can be easy, or hard. It all depends upon the "leanings" of the Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) whose jurisdiction you fall under, and whose signature you need.

By the letter of the law, they are only signing that they know of no law or regulation preventing the individual from owning whatever item is being purchased.
Most seem to sign without hesitation. I have only done a few, in two jurisdictions, and they couldn't have cooperated more.
Unfortunately, some CLEOs see the signing process as asking for their personal approval, and won't sign for anything, or for anyone.
