I thought maybe I should get on here and let you know what is going on.
I have been doing scallops now for quite some time. Did I think of it? No. I think Ed Minshue from STI did. I called him and asked him if it was OK for me to do it. I had an LS40 on display and a customer that I was building a Pistol for asked if I could do something like this, but cover more of the front strap. I told him yes. So I did.
I have had many good comments on it from Lady shooters and those that spend most of there time behind a desk. Soft Hands. It doesn't dig in and make your hands hurt like some checkering. It can be skin shreading sharp or very gentle to the touch. Depends on how deep it is cut. This is one thing I like about it as the same setup on a Mill can do either in the same amount of time. Not so with checkering.
I know there are several who offer it. But only two have called me and asked if I had a Trademark on it, or if I would care if they offered it. Ed Brown was one of them. Hope you sell lots of them Ed.

I greatly admire people who give credit to other people's work.

Mr. Heinie,

Thanks for your post. It is clarification like yours that removes the speculative infighting in this industry. I am learning that the true greats are giving of their work and technique and only whish success for their colleagues. This type of fellowship has made pistols customized by such craftsman some of my most prized possessions.

Jim

Post kind of drifted from the new Brown model to the appropriateness of the name to trademark infringement to old home week. Nice to know that as a group we can solve most of societies ills with a bit of communication! :D

Ordered a Special Forces yesterday. The girl said I should have one of the first since I got in early. Now if they would just come out with the "old fat retired SWAT officer model". I would probably have my name engraved on that one.

Put me in for one of the"old, fat, retired, SWAT officer" models. I want my name engraved on it too.

...I've got to admit I like telling my non gun owning friends that my S&W M686 is a Distinguished Combat Magnum. :D

Exactly how far back does this gun name thing go?

At least as far back as Colt's Frontier Six Shooter, right?
