My son finished this one for my partner just in time for a Wyoming Antelope hunt next month. Looks like it will be a shooter.

Caspian 6" 10mm with a W/N ramped Kart NM barrel. EGW fire control and various odds and ends from our parts bin.

Serial number RW0627 is Rodgers initials and OCPD commission number.

For what its worth I dont know how anyone can make a living building 1911's. The pro's must be working for minimum wage.

Gary-

Just a heads up 10mm is not allowed in WY ...at least not listed in the rags that I have seen.

FROM WY Game and Fish web site....
because big game calibers must be at least .23 caliber with a 2-inch cartridge in Wyoming. In addition the following pistol calibers are permitted: .357 Remington Maximum, .41 and .44 Remington Magnum, .44 Auto Magnum. .45 Winchester Magnum, .454 Casull and .50 Action Express. Although the G&F realizes smaller calibers can be adequate to kill big game at close ranges, it would be vague, cumbersome and possibly confusing to enact a regulation permitting other calibers only in certain situations.

BTW my buddy just shot @80" goat today 16.5 tall nice cutters, hell of a goat!!

I don't want to see you in trouble with the guts and feathers boys.

Mark

Thanks Mark. We havent hunted Wy. in about 10 years. I thought their regs were the same as ours. Case length, bore diameter and bullet weight.

Call and check, they have changed and the website is not up to date, I know blackpowder and centerfire are set up that way but the only regs I can find for handguns are as above. What area are you hunting, and when if you get to Casper I'll try and meet up and buy you a beer...oh yeah, nice blaster too!

Nice blaster Gary, I'll buy you a beer when you come out if you have time.

Thanks guys. Looks like we will have to try it on Oklahoma whitetail instead. If I take everybody up on the beer I may be too drunk to hunt! Anyone been to the Rifleman in Rawlins??

This is what the reg actually says about calibers. Section B got close to covering it but unfortunately I am not aware of a 10mm load that produces 500FPE @ 100yards. But then again it says "generally"!!
Quote:
Section 4. Firearms and cartridges that are legal for the taking of big or trophy game animals.

(a) Wyoming statutes authorize the use of a firearm which has a barrel bore diameter of at least twenty-three-hundredths (23/100) of an inch and is chambered to fire a center-fire cartridge not less than two (2) inches in overall length, including a soft or expanding point bullet seated to a normal depth, or a muzzle-loading rifle which has a barrel bore diameter of at least forty-hundredths (40/100) of an inch and a charge of at least fifty (50) grains of black powder or equivalent, or a muzzle-loading specialty single shot handgun which has a barrel length of not less than ten (10) inches, a bore diameter of at least forty-five-hundredths (45/100) of an inch and which propels a projectile of two hundred forty (240) grains at not less than five hundred (500) foot pounds at one hundred (100) yards.

(b) In addition, the Commission authorizes any other cartridge fired from a firearm that has a barrel bore diameter of at least thirty-five hundredths (35/100) of an inch and the cartridge generally delivers at least five hundred (500) ft-pounds of impact at one hundred (100) yards and cartridges used are loaded with a soft, or expanding point bullet.

Never heard of the Rifleman... but I avoid Rawlins like the flu.
In Rawlins, hit up Rose's Lariat Cafe...it looks like a dumpy little trailer but the food ROCKS!! Other than that I only stop if I have too! BTW fuel is usually cheaper by 15- 20 cents a gallon in Orin Junction if you are headed past Rawlins and can make it the extra 25 miles. Feel free to call me with any questions I'll be out of comms 10-14 days come Saturday...HUNTING!!!

Gary, DOUBLETAP Ammo has several 10mm loads that are over 700ftlbs at the muzzle. With that 6inch barrel you should be able to find one that is still over 500 at 100 yrds. Mike McNett could probably tell you which load will meet that magic 500 mark, http://www.doubletapammo.com

FWIW

An email from Mike McNett of doubletap confirms they ahev 5 loads generating 500 FPE @100 yards.
215WFN
200WFN
200gr Controlled Expansion
200gr FMJ-FP
180gr Controlled Expansion
180gr GDHP

A call to Wyoming Game and fish confirms that if the ballisitics are correct 10mm is legal.

Thanks for the resopnses. The test firing of this gun was done with 200gr hornady bullets hand loaded to 1200fps out of a 5". Unfortunately I didnt have time to chrono the loads from the 6". And the range I use was occupied, so was the ransom rest!! So I fired these groups over a sandbag in the prone. The 6" seems to handle the hot 10's and really makes this gun a pleasure to shoot. The slide cycle is very fast but very soft. And I did cheat a bit and use a shock buff on the guide rod. The gun has less percieved recoil than a 5in .45 with 230's. Completing this gun kind of saddened me as the fruits of my labor now reside in another guy's safe!! thanks guys more projects to follow my next is an officers .38 super.

1timeranger,

If you don't mind me asking, what would something like that (6" 10mm 1911) cost me?

Well I am not currently taking orders this is my hobby and quickly growing into more than just that. When I get in a position where I am able to take orders it will be on the r and g website. I am still not ready to undertake outside work. But thanks for viewing my work I also will not discuss price on the open forum because this isn't my forum and I am not trying to use it as a launchpad for business. I really do appreciate the inquiry though. Keep your eye's on the r and g website and I will post a section on it when I get into swing with the custom work.
