As the adage goes the only absolutes in life are death and taxes. The other is sometimes carrying a 5" 1911 18 hours a day in an IWB can be a PITA for some. Decades ago Colt came out with the Lightweight Commander and it made carrying a 45 ACP a bit easier. Ted just made this one better by a long way.

The setup pictured is a fine rendition of what is coming off of Ted's bench these days. It seems he has taken an affinity for the handmade wood stocks, polished blue flats and checkering. Not many will disagree. This one if for a great friend who has commissioned a number of guns from the shop. This particular member of the LAPD is going to end up with what I consider a great carry setup. An Alessi PCH and a Colt Lightweight Commander.

The African Blackwood stocks set off just enough from the blued gun. The rib on this gun was cut down and reserrated. The hand checkered frontstrap goes well with the rest of the appointments. For a lot of us who carry 5" guns most of the time working with this one sort of makes you wonder how nice it would be to carry a lighter gun.

Enjoy the snaps and have a great weekend.

Oooh, oooh, I get to be the first to comment this time :)

I guess the best post would be to take every comment from every other thread and post them here. Every gun IS better than the last. Awesome work Ted! I am impressed every time I come here, and even moreso when I see new guns from Ted.

Bravo x infinity

You know what??
I am getting sick of you guys!
You are taking all of my money!

First I had to order one of the limited run of the LW Signature CCO's you guys are offering....

Well, I am no where near even having that yet (waiting list of course) and I am already talking to you guys about getting a Big Lewie....

NOW you go and post this while I have 2 pre series 70 LW Commanders sitting in my safe... One is waiting to go to Mr Harrison when my name comes up and now I think I have decided whats going to happen to the other one...

Seriously though, thanks for suck beautiful and functional work!
Most smiths seems to simply make great guns for bullseye shooting or range play... YoBo and the vast majority of LTW guys are among the few who make guns meant to run in the real world! I do not need my pistol to shoot 1 1/2 in groups at 50 yrds, I need it to run like a bat out of hell even when its been in the sand or mud

Thank you Steve.
For some excellent and clear photography, as well as coherently descriptive wording.
You have outlined exactly, my next object of obsession/compulsion. :D

Now all I have to do is locate an early Colt LW Commander in very good condition as a base gun. I will be gliding through the local shops and shows for an appropriate candidate. 8)

As an amusing aside, a LW Colt Commander in .45acp was my first carry piece after being appointed to the Detective Division way back in 1966.
Everyone was carrying Colt or S&W .38spl snubbies or other Jack Webb style goodies and I was on the catching end of some not so funny, hard comments for my choice of hardware. I did not change until a change of administration mandated the carrying of revolvers in .38spl., ONLY!

That sent me back to the S&W M#27, 3 1/2 N frame. Anvil heavy but allowed compliance with what was hottest at the time. Super Vels.

Times change. Thank God!

Just gorgeous. I love the attention to the classic lines. I guess that I need to stay on the lookout for a used LW Commander. It is a burden that I will bear.

Another beauty destined for CA!!! This one will be a duty pistol. Being retired has its privileges since one can carry what one wants. I can't wait to run a few thousand rounds through her. My brother is a pilot for a major airline after serving 28 years in the Air Force. Recently, he has been sending a number of pilots to me for additional training. It is refreshing that seriousness that the pilots take this aspect of their jobs. Of course I fully intend to introduce them all to the 1911. Right now they are carrying HK 40 S&Ws. I plan on converting them all to 1911s by the end of training  Actually I think they have to use the HKs. but they will be better shots nonetheless. Thanks for the superlative work as usual Ted!!!

Absolutely fabulous. Yet another one. Sigh. Beautiful work Ted.
John, you are correct regarding the HK's. I believe H&K was awarded the FFDO contract with their USPC in .40 S&W with the LEM trigger module.

Ted has often commented that he considers the Colt to be just a basis for a custom 1911. That said, I don't know of anyone who does a 'Classic" Colt build better than Mr. Ted. Beauty job Theo.
