It's a drizzly, rainy day, not quite cold enough to snow.
Our oldest child is home sick.
My wife has gone to work for a meeting (bad news- the company she works for lost it's contract with the hospital).
And the doorbell rings...

It's FedEx.
FedEx?
Adult Signature?
And the return address is Tempe, AZ.
What a happy day!

Now, let me share the happy moment with the guys that caused me to take this step:

Opening up the box:
Image

Only to find a shipping bag:
Image

The Browning box coming out of that bag:
Image

And the first glimpse:
Image

Better look:
Image

And back into my hand:
Image

Better do a chamber check, just to be safe.
Ooowee, that's shiny.
Image

And a look down the slide. So far, that gold line front sight looks like a winner. It looks dark against a light background and glows bright against a dark background.
Image

And the left side:
Image

I had to stop there, because I tossed it in the floor, laid down on it, and rolled and squirmed all over it like a dog that just found a dead bird in the yard. I tried, but couldn't hold the camera.

More details and comments to follow, I'm sure. Now I have to spend some time with it.

Barry,

That is truly awesome!!! When the BHP bug hit me a few weeks ago I called Jason about an SRT. He told me the lead time was 10-12 months, and I couldn't bring myslef to wait that long. So, I bought one off of Novak's website. It's a fine pistol, but I sure wish I'd had the patience to wait for the SRT.

Good shooting !!!!

Thanks, guys.
I drooled over the HiPowers here for a while, and it did me in. Just thought I'd return the favor when I had the chance!

Merry Christmas indeed.
Thank you, Ted, and Merry Christmas to you! Thanks to you and whoever worked on this gun. It's just what I wanted, maybe more, but certainly no less.
The more I looked at the Operator I won last year, the more I knew I had to send in a HiPower. The bases are now covered. Well, almost.

By the way everyone, the details are-
SRT Package, Best Quality Trigger Job w/ short reset, open rear sight to .140, contour/cut/serrate Heinie rear, recrown muzzle.

It's pretty poor lighting today, so I knew it wouldn't come out very sharp, but I couldn't resist the obligatory "glamour shot". This is the only one that is close to presentable:

Wow! You could I.D. that watch from that crummy pic?

It's actually one of the Movado-marked ones, but you're still dead-on. It has a Zenith-marked band!
I don't have a whole lot of nice watches, but that's one of my favorites. It belonged to a USAF Colonel who supposdly wore it while he was flying B-52s over N. Vietnam. I believe that it belonged to him, because his name is engraved on the back, and I want to believe that he wore it in Buffs over Hanoi even though I can't prove that part.

Hello Barry!
My first post, but I can't think of a better time to drop in!I'm glad to see you got your HP!I felt the same way when I got mine.It was well worth the wait! They are truly a work of art.Ted can work wonders with a cold piece of metal.I have had work done by other gunsmiths, but none equal the detail this gentleman puts into each piece.Whether the piece is "full tilt boogie"or a working gun, they all sing!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL,
:D DAT85

I owned one just like it, and recognized the bracelet.

My two bad (expensive) habits - guns and watches.

Barry,

You're killing me. Ted called yesterday with last minute details and had Jason ship mine out.

It's due in tomorrow and FedEx told me that I'd have delivery by 7:00 PM. Since I have tremendous restraint, I had Jason contact FedEx to hold at the airport hub and I'd come and pick it up.

I haven't worked out the exact details yet. I may or may not shave, brush my teeth, have coffee or feed the cat(supposed to be the kids job anyway) but, I'll be there when the door opens.

Safrihunter-
I guess it's a good thing the weather was lousy and my wife had to go in to work today, otherwise I'd have targets posted by now. That would really sting!

Hey, if my airport I.D. still worked, I'd probably offer to go meet the plane with you.

A beautiful blued finish, nice wood grips, and Heinies on a HiPower. Like apple pie ala mode. :D

Very nice. Enjoy!

I didn't realize until now that I had not posted a shooting report.
Like most of us, time was scarce for me this time of year, so I didn't get to shoot it as soon as I would have liked. We always vist my in-laws in GA over Christmas and/or New Years and it was time to leave for that trip before I got to shoot it. I packed the SRT. I had little hope of getting anywhere to shoot it, but hated to leave it here all alone!

During the in-law visit, I did a little investigating and found a gun club over the Alabama state line. A couple of emails, phone calls, and trip to their range later, I was a member of a gun club 730 miles from home. We visit the in-laws a few times a year, and I'm usually getting bored after the second day, so I should have done this years ago.

I had tossed a plastic toolbox of 9mm ammo in as an afterthought, so I had plenty to shoot. I thought I'd test some different types of carry ammo and let it go at that.
I should have known it would turn into more than that.
I shot the carry ammo. Then I shot some FMJ in some draw and fire drills. Then I was done.
Until I found the club's plate rack. Those things can be addictive.
I totaled it up, and found that I had shot 397 rounds of various ammunition, from 100 grain CorBon PwRBall through 147 grain HydraShok, with everything else in between. I failed to bring any lube, so it was getting a little dry by the last 100 rds. Still, it had zero malfunctions, stutters, or spurts.
You know how you can feel some guns feed? Feeling the round go up and through different stages of the feeding process? Not this one. Even when almost completely dry of lube, it ran smooth and cases zipped right through it.

Almost as important was lack of hammer bite. I get bit by every HiPower hammer I've tried. They just bite in different ways. The spur hammer gets me the least, and I wanted a bobbed spur here. I still worried about hammer bite. While I waited on this gun to come back, the only second thoughts I had about how I ordered it was: 1) not getting the beavertail, and 2) not getting it hard chromed. I didn't want the beavertail if I didn't need it, so wanted to try it without it first. I figured I could send it back for it if needed. Which is why I didn't go for hard chrome, thinking it may have to come off.
I'm pleased to say that it is just fine as-is. The bobbed hammer of this gun didn't give me a single nip. Worries over. Maybe someday, I'll get the chroming done, but this bluing is so nice that I'll keep it on until it wears off.

I didn't know how I would like the gold line front sight when I ordered it, but I find that I do. Either the black steel, the gold line, or both, shows up against everything I've tried.

The extended thumb safety is just right. I usually can manage the old style HiPower safety, but "usually" isn't good enough. I have had no trouble with operating the newer style factory extended safety, but I can't keep my thumb on it and end up swiping my thumb over it and shooting "Low Thumbs". This one is a thing of beauty. It's relatively subtle- not some big old chunk of metal hanging out there, and is gracefully shaped. Yet, I can plant my thumb on it and keep it there when shooting.
The combination of the high cut fronstrap and this thumb safety lock the gun into my hand. It's a slightly different feel, while still feeling like a HiPower.
The safety's operation is a lot more crisp and definite than any stock BHP. Whenever I hear the standard complaint of the BHP's mushy safety, I'll steer the complainer toward Tempe.

The Sharkskin Stippling doesn't look very rough, bit it sure does grip. It doesn't rub the hand raw either. Must be magical sharkskin.

The Best Quality trigger was something I looked forward to trying, and it didn't disappoint. I won't give away secrets of how the short rest is done (even if I could figure it out), but I saw work all through the gun that had to at least contribute. At the cost of the work, I'd say they earn every penny. If I could, I'd send in every HiPower I own for this work.

So, I'd say I'm happy.

Maybe the gun elves could sneak into the shop easier and knock some guns out with people away at the SHOT Show.

Congrats. I'm sure you'll like it. My BHP has moved into the holster now.

Tim and Garrett have been working steadily on 1* jobs for almost two months now. Their level of efficiency is improved, and they've made a huge dent in the backlog. We're running a quicker turn time right now than I can remember, and the guns are turning out very well.

Wish my side of the vault was getting caught up

Hello and thanks so much for letting us see your very fine custom Hi Power. That is as fine looking Hi Power as I've ever seen. Great looks combined with a functional pistol that can serve well is a very pleasing combination.

Best.
