First, I am no Bailey or Burton when it comes to photography.

I never seem to get tired of seeing 10mm pistols coming from Ted Yost. I commissioned this build after a phone conversation with Ted. Basically, it came down to "I'll provide the frame, you pick the parts and build it how you want to".

Jason doesn't seem to get terribly excited about pistols when you talk to him on the phone (well he does), but you could hear something in his voice that said this one was different. So, it came home last night, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Thanks Ted!

I've been like a five year old kid waiting for Christmas morning to arrive for about two weeks now.

So, here's a few photos....

My compliments on a very, very, nice piece. Amongst all that was done the remake of the Delta grips on the VZ micarta is a very, very, nice touch. The crowning and fluting on the barrel is also nice. Bet it is a tack driver.

Sweet blaster, Mark! I really like the barrel fluting, that's a very cool touch. 8)

That's pretty neat. A little bit of a classic Combat Special look from the two-tone, but a lot of new and unique touches.

Wow what a shooter. It gobbles up the 200gr Doubletap load. The 135gr Doubletap stuff was amazing. I can't wait to chronograph it.

100% reliable and super accurate. What more can a guy ask for....well, don't answer that.

Very well done. I love the entire gun. Great job, and an excellent choice in caliber.

I was able to chronograph one load before the damn thing quit working (the chrono, not the pistol).

135gr Doubletap runs about 1550 out of this one. Of course, that may be a low reading as the chronograph was unreliable after that.

It's very snappy. Every load I shot today was accurate, as long as I did my part. One particularly good group was about the size of a quarter with the Doubletap 180gr XTP load (at 10 yards, freehand).

It's great fun to shoot... I'm really enjoying it :)

I think on this gun what gave me that "special" feeling was the phenomenal 50 yard accuracy I realized with the gun... it's a literal tack driver, plain and simple. While doing some training my shooting partner and I spent the better part of a day wringing this and a few other recently completed pistols out and by far this was the most fun of the day. We took turns seeing who could shoot the most 50-yard head shots without dropping any rounds... and if you can hold it this gun can shoot it!

Oh, how I love the 10mm. And this gun? I like it... quite a lot. Helluva fine piece, Ted. Very nice setup.

Ted, you have built several 10mm's recently, and they are all fine looking guns. In your opinion, do you get the best results from the Caspian Frame and slide (i.e.reliability given the Delta Elite series 80 timing, potential for peening, etc)?
I think the 10 will continue to thrive given the versatility, 40cal bullet availability, and the attention that you top smiths are giving the round. It also seems to have a different sort of kick in the 1911 compared to the 45. With less rotational torque, it is not all that hard to keep on target, especially considering the substantially higher energy numbers it is producing.

That's a good question, but the answer might surprise you

Neither is better. Now, let me qualify that before some folks get into hammerin' on the keys....

Not to sound like a primadonna, but I'll only build a 10mm to a certain level, and that's all the way. The problems occur when folks try and cut a corner here or there. A Colt product will have welded up and refit frame and slide rails, the Caspian will be fit from oversize dimensions. The result will be the same. Barrel fits, components,tolerances,etc...all the same. The series 80 components are not really an issue. They have to be properly timed in whatever gun you build - a 10mm isn't any more problematic.

The bad news is, that frequently in the case of a Colt, you start with a used gun. Colt never came even remotely close to being able to set up a 10mm properly. Many guns show battering damage from recoil, and damage to the disconnector slot from hammer chatter. When you add these common "warts" to generally horrible lines, inconsistent QC, and rollmarks that are usually uneven, you can see why a really nice Delta is "special". It takes more work to get to the same place with a Colt, but it's worth the ride 8)

Thanks for the reply, Ted. It has been a challenge to find the nice full rollmarked Deltas. The funny thing about prices is that components are sky high, like mags, slides, and grips, but the guns themselves are still obtainable in greater than 95% condition for less than $800. Obviously the Gold Cup guns are differently priced.

Is the stainles steel used in the Deltas of sufficient quality to prevent galling?
