Has anyone had any problems with Ed Brown Beavertails? I Just recently received my Custom 5' 1911 from Gemini Customs (Don't Worry, pics are comin'), and after about 300 rnds, the beavertail began to discolor badly in the contact areas. I took it back to Marc to have him look at it, and after a call to Ed Brown, they stated that they had some problems with some of them recently. Something in the alloy that was reacting with the oils in the skin causing them to discolor. Not to worry, it is on its way to Virgil Tripp for a kiss of Hard Chrome. Just wondering if anyone has had any similar problems.

a bad batch of stainless Ed Brown recieved ~3 years ago (from Ruger I believe)...greater than average carbon content apparently - although Ed never elaborates too much on things.

I own many EB guns and had this happened to the beavertail and MainSpingHousing on a brand new Stainless Kobra Carry within a few weeks of carry/use back in 2005. I spoke with Ed Brown personally and he had the pistol shipped to him and back in 2 days in better than new condition.

Apparently, it can be fixed with vinigar and a stiff brush, but I didn't think it was up to me to make it right. I am sure Marc M. at Gemini will take care of you...from what I hear he is a top class person/smith! Ed will replace the part FREE of charge, but it would require Marc to re-fit it.

From everything I've seen and buying 3 EB's since then (2 stainless), I have never seen this crop up again. I suspect it was some older inventory at Brownells or Midway that Marc happeed onto...

Here is a pic of my issue, fyi:

That is exactly what happened to mine within 2 days of having my new shooter in my hands. I ordered every part for this build myself (hey, I'll take the 30% L.E. discount from brownell's and caspian any day), and had Marc Build it the way I wanted it. It Kinda got me a little more involved in the process too. After taking it back to Marc and cussin' and discussin' it at some length, I decided to have the whole thing Hard Chromed, instead of the beautiful bead blasted finish that Marc had done. This along with a truly one of a kind front strap and msh treatment we put our heads together to come up with (O.K. i'll admit, Marc did most of the brainstorming and I just kinda sat there in awe of what he came up with, and yes, pics will be posted when I get it back) Made for a truly awesome mix of classic and custom (in my humble opinion anyway, but hey, I'm biased). Anyway, thanks for the reply. I was curious if anyone else had run into this.
