Can a 1911 in 9mm Steyr be converted to a 10mm gun with a new barrel? I know nothing about this round.

Highly unlikely. The breechface will be dimensioned for a 9mm/.38 Super (what the Steyr basically is) cartridge.

That is smaller than the 10mm breechface. No, you can't cut it larger, not without a lot more work than it's worth doing.

9mm Steyr ammo is available and reasonably cheap. Search out ammo and shoot that. If you absolutely need it to be in some caliber more common, get a 9mm or .38 Super barrel for it.

Just out of curiosity, a 9mm Steyr 1911? What maker?

Marked on the slide as a 9mm Steyr? Interesting. Or just a 9mm Steyr in a Colt, marked as a 9mm or .38 Super?
