Love this new forum area..thanks for adding it.

Here were three of my competition guns when I was shooting a lot..

The first one is a 9mm built on an STI, was set up for IDPA ESP division.
The second was my limited division gun, .40S&W STI
The third was my EGW 9x23 open gun.

Image

I don't shoot as much anymore..when I do I tend to play in USPSA production with a CZ SP01.

Thought I would add one of Chuck Rogers' top fuel dragsters. It even looks fast. Love this new forum.

Hello..

I'll give it a try..
for USPSA competition there are several divisions for guns to fit in. They are Open, Limited, Limited 10, Production. Revolver and a provencial division, single stack.

The open division guns: rules are pretty much anything goes, except has to be a 9mm cartridge to make the 165PF ( bullet weight x velocity )to make major and mags can be no longer than 170mm (including basepad, which fits about 27-29 rounds in the mag).

The guns have progressed to the point that what works is a compensation system, some type of red dot sight and in 38super/9x19 variant.

Most of the guns are built on STI/SV, Caspian HiCap or Tanfoglio frames..with a smattering of Glocks, CZs.

USPSA has been a great test bed to figure out what works..most folks are willing to experiment and try this or that part, modification, cartridge and competition and the thousands of rounds that get fired seem to prove out what parts, modifications and techniques work..

I'll be the first to admit that I used to think of open guns as heresy. That was until I shot one. :D Now I have to have one.

Thanks to the mods that created this forum. While I love all the beautiful work done in the custom forum I am not ashamed to admit that I love shooting games and the equipment used.

In fact I just got a 9MM single stack built on a Caspian slide and frame for use in IDPA. Sadly my brother borrowed the digital camera and I won't be able to post pictures for the next week. I think it came out pretty nicely.

I am new to this forum and I am really liking it. Those are some nice pistols. What do you guys usually do to a "stock" unit to get it ready for your competitions? Thanks.

Jeff

Jeff that is a really loaded question. None of the guns in this thread are even remotely close to stock. One or two might have started their lives as stock guns but I'd be willing to bet that all of these guns were built from the ground up just to race.

A good starting point is the same starting point for a carry gun. Since Col Cooper was the founder of practical shooting and the godfather of tactical shooting his adivce applies to both. Good sights, a trigger you can use and 100% reliability should be your starting point any less and you are cheating yourself.

That is about as much as I can tell you right now as I don't know what sport or which division you are looking to run in. As you progress having the right equipment and having that equipment properly tuned and maintianed becomes more and more important.

I am not really sure if I would be competing yet. I have been looking at a few Kimber's and some other options. I just want to be sure I have a good base unit for future modifications. I have some .45's already but I would prefer to leave these stock. I am a machinist by trade so I really like the idea of knowing my gun and being able to put the time and effort into it and this one reason I am looking at possibly trying to do future mods. Thanks and I appreciate all your guys input and ideas.

Jeff

A CR Speed holster for the Glock ought to work for that setup.

Love to see tricked out raceguns. They dont seem as popular today as back they were back in the mid-90's.
