I recently completed Larry's class and here are the results. We had 5 and 1/2 days of hard work and more at home to finish the pistol. The finish is Melonite.

And a video of the pistol still in the white feeding cartridges at the range.

Looks real nice. I've talked to Drake a bit about the finish and would like to give it a try some time.....

Congratulations on the build, it looks great. Truly something you should be proud of. I attended Cylinder and Slides Class several years ago and the pistol I built doesn't look as good as yours but I was very proud of mine never the less.

Wow. I am impressed. Did you have any prior experience building before the class? The pistol looks great.

Perhaps I will see you at TDI with it one day?

Regards,
Greyson

hk24,

Very nice....I really like the way you dehorned the sharp corners on the frame and slide. I really like the clean slide without any marking and especially like that you did not cut front cocking serrations.

Good job. The dehorn of the thumb safety is well done and the piece comes together well as a whole.

Nice work. It looks a lot like Nighthawk's Vickers gun minus the ball cuts and a few more details. Is it the same frame w/the integral plunger? How does it shoot?

I'm not Lynn, but he answered this identical question in another forum. He said the frame is the same as the one NH used for the Vickers signature pistol, except the plunger is NOT integral. Larry wanted the students to fit the plunger tubes themselves.

Smooth One answered the one question. The pistol shoots great. The thing cycles so smooth and there is less felt recoil than my other 1911s. I have been out shooting in the snow and still no wear on the sldie rails.

The outside looks nice, but it is what Larry taught us to do to the inside is what really makes this gun special.

If your not a member, you might want to join, but you can also just surf http://www.10-8forums.com and check out the info that they have there. They post info about the Larry Vickers Classes on that site.

Lynn,

That pistol is a beauty! Well Done! Really makes me anxious for the course I'll be doing later this year....course the long wait just means I can pick up the parts over time instead of all at once!

In regards to the Vickers courses, Lynn is hosting another one in Ohio, in the near future. Also, there is one slated for Kansas in a few months and I'll be hosting one in Nebraska come October.

Spendy classes, but an outstanding experience.

an absolute classic ! I kinda prefer the look of your pistol, Lynn, to the Nighthawk Vickers, seems more elegant. I'm going to register over at 10-8 for more info.
Drake is doing a melonite finish on one of my pistols right now, if it looks anything like that I'll be over the moon...
cheers

ETA:
I got my pistol back from Drake today....WOW ! it does look like that and I am, indeed, over the aformentioned lunar body. I'll post a pic when I get the chance, but the finish looks absolutely lovely. It's a perfectly even, satin smooth black, much nicer than any spray 'n' bake finishes I've ever seen.
