Honestly I had low expectations from these but when Patrick Sweeney showed me one a couple years ago, I could not help but be impressed by the overall fit and quality. I don't think it's configured ideally and I have not wrung one out but overall first impressions were good.

I worked on one of the new ones about a year ago, and though the front sight is so short that it's hard to pick up quickly, it's a surprisingly accurate gun and reliable as well, at least the one I shot.

If you use the search function you can find a full house Detonic built by Chuck Rogers.

Firing mine did not give me a good feeling. Almost every round impacted the middle top of the chamber and refused to move further. A simple tap on the rear of the slide was not enough. That spring is heavy and my fingers were raw after racking the slide every other round.

I have to say that my joy faded quick. On the other hand It is a MKVI and has a low round count. I picked it up cheaply. See where cheap gets you.

I had not brought any of my other magazines so next trip I will try my Wilson Combat Officers magazines. If these work I will purchase the Sentinal magazines for carry.

The search function will only go back a couple of weeks for me. If Mr. Rogers could post some pictures or links to the post that would be great.

Thanks for the picture. Is that a bobtail? Wow, that has got to conceal well but, a hand full to fire.

Our search function appears compromised.
Anyways, you can find a similar posting here:

The gun was surprisingly pleasant to shoot.

"As mentioned above the bobtailing was possible because this gun uses a full size mainspring housing. The grip safety is inactive and the sear spring and hammer strut are severely chopped. I was still able to get a nice trigger job at 4.5lbs but it wasn't easy!
As for the rear sight.....well form follows function. Look at the pic of the stock gun, the front sight was .100" tall and difficult to use. Customer wanted a white tritium dot up front on a useable height front sight. Increasing the height of the front sight .075" required the same increase in height of the rear. I fabricated the new sight and mounted it as far to the rear as possible. The wall thickness of the top of the rear of the slide was the limiting factor.
The gun shoots surprisingly well! The high cut made room for about 2 1/2 fingers. It's accurate and controllable, a lot more than it would seem. It kind of feels like a J frame in the hand.
This gun was built with a limited budget constraint. Many of the cosmetic touches normally found on my work are missing. But it will serve its intended purpose well.

:D

G~d, I still just sit here and stare at that melt job to the rear. Curves like that generally come on women. A friend owns a Detnoics he had Clark do a carry job on way back when. After oogling yours, and having shot his-- I'm all the more determined to get my hands on one-- or create something Behlert woulda grinned at.
You give us would be a high standard to meet, Chuck, but I'll be if it's not a golden standard for work.

I can't say that I'm a Detonics lover, but that is one nice looking pistol! It might change my overall attitude toward them, or at least make me see their potential. I guess some call pistols "attitude changers" but I don't that kind of attitude change was what they had in mind.
