I've seen many pistols here on the LTW site and the smiths here graciously allow me to post my work. Here is a pistol that you can see their concepts shine through my work. The cocking serrations and the bottom of the slide bevel are influenced by C. T. Brian's "Chopper" and the slide top serrations and slide stop serrations modeled after Ted Yost. The mainspring housing is a Stan Chen "Legacy Custom" unit.

I cut my staggered borders along the slide, ball cuts, hand checkered at 25 LPI on the front and rear. I've installed a Heinie mag well, Bomar rear sight, a hand made Fiber Optic front sight, Ed Brown Beavertail, Kart Barrel, Rock River frame with a custom serial number. It has a Caspian slide with rear of the slide serrations, Ed brown beavertail, Ed Brown button style mag catch, medium trigger, Cylinder and Slide ultra-light hammer and sear, Infinity disconnector, and real Ivory grips (incredible grain pattern). I cut the live round extraction cut, action job at 3 pounds, and I plan on re-crowning the barrel and do something with the trigger - I haven't decided yet.

It is finished in Melonite to top it all off.

I hope you enjoy....

Thats an outstanding build! You really buried the Bo-Mar deep, the cocking serrations look unique, and the staggered border is my favorite. Melonite is a beautiful finish - very very nice 1911 Sir....youre getting 'the hang' of this I see. :P

I like the cocking serrations too, that's the first thing that jumps at me. Looks real nice, Bob.

I see somebody has connections and that somebody rates custom s/n's...... lucky you! :P

Is there any issue with Melonite on extractors?

Bob,
That's a nice build. The Ivory with the Melonite really stands out. Is there a story behind the pistol?

The story is simple... It's mine. I've been working on it for a little over a year now.

I have 5 Rock River Arms frames with serial numbers "RA MILLER 1" through "RA MILLER 5"

The first two are builds I have had for years now, that I did back when I was a pup in the Custom Pistols. Number 3 is shown above, number 4 is a .45 commander that is still a ways away from being finished, and 5 is one of their integral railed frames. I'm not sure what I'm doing with the rail gun. Maybe a 9X23 or something fun.

Ned, the extractor doesn't get treated in Melonite. It is just a regular blued finish to keep from making it too brittle.

The final chapter on this pistol may be with the American Pistolsmith Guild.

I forgot to add - this gun, along with all the rest are built while I'm enrolled in school as a full time student of Mechanical Engineering. Can you say "Busy?"

Cheers!

Bob

Beautiful work, Bob. It's very appealing from muzzle to magwell and everywhere in between.

Bob, as always your work is inspirational to us pups.
There are those zevra ivory stocks Id heard so much about. They really set off a nice contrast betwen the Melonite, serrations, and oversized mag catch. A classical tribute the site's corp. Nicely done brother.

The commander's obviously a burden, what kind of friend would I be not to lift a little weight from your shoulders?

Trumpet, I've wondered the same thing. He's my son so I might be a little biased, but he sure has a knack for detail and he's really devoted to cutomer service and quality. I've seen him finish a pistol and find some detail he isn't happy with and strip the whole thing down and refinish the gun. He will pick things out that I would never have caught without him showing me. I think this speaks volumes for his devotion to this craft.

One thing about Bob having his shop is I get to see all of the work that goes through it. This particular pistol is just stunning. I thought he should have high polished blue since he does such a good job polishing. When he said he was going to Melonite it, I tried to talk him out of it, but once it was all finished, I think he made the right choice.

I'm looking forward to his next project and the other pistols he's working on for me. I've got a .40 S&W Commander, 6" 9mm target gun, a Damascus slide just came in, and I've got another Titanium frame he needs to start on.

While we appreciate the advice, participation on the forum, as well as admire the support of Bob it’s not really that simple.

LTW, while in part a gathering of gunsmiths, wasn’t formed for the sole purpose of being a gathering of gunsmiths, that’s one of the reasons not all of the board members are pistol plumbers. Although it’s a nice result of the discussion forum and a side benefit we encourage, LTW isn’t about getting as many gunsmiths on board as possible, there are other groups whose purpose is just that but for us the ideas and goals behind LTW are a bit more outward-looking. No doubt a benefit of this gathering is the unity and exchange of ideas that we who are in this industry enjoy, but as a whole LTW and its board is about giving something back and working as a group to benefit worthy charities. In addition, and what we discovered to be a result of this gathering, the LTW discussion board has helped educate and hopefully elevate the custom pistol industry as a whole as well as being a great place for like minded folks to come together to share ideas and discuss fine custom pistols.

Periodically we discuss adding individuals as needed and once we do again I can assure you we’ll consider parties from all avenues.

Jason,

I appreciate you guys having me here and letting me post some of my work. I'm glad you guys let me show off a little and give us all a chance to see, discuss, and converse with outstanding individuals - smiths and shooters alike.

I hear you loud and clear on the LTW group and what you guys stand for. It's not strenght in numbers here at LTW, it's strength in what you do. After talking to almost the entire crew via emails (Sorry, I didn't send you a mail yet, Mr. Bailey, or B. Rodgers) about some different directions I may take my shop, each one of you took the time to answer my questions and give me helpful and thoughtfull advice. I won't get into specifics as you all know what was discussed.

I love the fact that you guys work so hard at doing every angle of what you do. I have a couple projects that I am currently working on of which I intend on also giving back. If the avenues which I'm pursuing decide to get on board, I'll hopefully be making at least 1, if not 2 or 3 donations to a charitable organization in the name of Miller Custom in the next year to come. I won't get into specifics as I'm not trying to compete with you guys.

I will say thanks to everybody here for the kind comments and attitude here. As long as you guys don't mind me showcasing some of my work, and it doesn't become a problem, I'll keep doing what I've been doing. Should there ever be a problem, please let me know and I'll do what is necessary.

Thanks agian,
Bob
