Jack is a friend, and computer help who also hosts my website. In addition he's long been a firearms enthusiast, and once had a killer collection of 1911's done by some of the old masters. Anyway, some time back he sent me an early rollmarked 1991-A1 that he wanted done up in a retro fashion, and the results are pictured here.
The S&W K Frame rear sight is evident, along with a revo style front using an SDM dovetail front sight blended into the slide. We used an old Safari Arms style beavertail, which was reshaped, along with 20 LPI checkering and a few other assorted items, such as a Swenson ambi safety that Jack had laying around. Finally, it was sent off to Ionbond for a finish that will hold up for a long time. We finished it of with a pair of VZ 320 thin grips.

I love that look and this one is beautifully done.

A question: I have a Commander with those sights installed and I was always concerned that the one screw would not be enough. I noticed you only used one also, so can I assume there is no problem with that?

Mushinto, The older S&W sights used a 3-56 screw to hold the front of the sight in place. The one I used is a later K Frame sight which uses a 6-48 screw, which is about twice as big. If I were to use an earlier sight, I'd definitely add either a second screw or a pin for added shear strength. Thanks,

Looks great! All it might need is a square trigger guard. I like the older custom 1911s. :D
