I heard my wife on the phone in the distance telling her mother "Oh, he's fine, but he can't talk now. He's spent most of the afternoon looking at a new gun he got in the mail." Not exactly, but I had been almost beside myself wondering why the FedEx truck was late as I was expecting a box from Ted Yost and the fellers at Heirloom Precision. That was one of the longest afternoons of my life until the doorbell rang, the dog barked, and I entered High Powered Heaven. I sure as hell wasn't going to interrupt it to talk to my mother-in-law. Or anybody else, for that matter.

No further introduction is necessary on this site to these images, only to say I blundered into a little luck when I got a good deal on the base gun at Gander Mountain, of all places. It was a Practical model, and having the serial number on the side of the frame instead of the grip made a huge difference. Ted suggested I might want to take advantage of this and have checkering instead of the usual stippling, and I said "well, sure." Little did I realize what a difference that would make in the project, and I still can't get over the astonishing quality of this hand checkering.

Suffice to say I am slack-jawed and deeply appreciative of being the owner of this pistol.

Thanks, Ted.

That is one gorgeous pistol. I love the look of the Hi-Power to begin with, but the SRT package makes it even better. The checkering does make a difference.

Yes, the backstrap got the checkering, too. You can see it here in this view of the remarkable sight picture afforded by that rear, combined with the gold line inlaid on the front blade. The safety engages with a small "snick" noise, like a tiny bank vault closing and I have yet to figure out how the trigger modification was done. It is a wonderfully crisp trigger release, though, and makes even my Novak's trigger job feel like flubber in comparison.

Wowzers!!!! That is incredible. Like a classy woman. Understated, refined and elegant with just a hint of sass to go with the class. The bar has been elevated to the stratospheric level at least. Is that 40 or 50 LPI checkering?

Wow!

That is a perfect HP, Ted and his crew did a magnificent job. A Hi Power is next on my list and will be sending it to either Heirloom Precision or Don Williams.

Wow.

Santa certainly showed up early to your house. That truly is an heirloom. Very well executed. The checkering is immaculate. Congratulations and enjoy!

My Novak trigger feels like crunch-flubber. :( I've never heard anything but great things about Williams and Yost Hi-Powers. Now you'll have to get one from Don but blued

I love the checkering and the sights :D

I've always wanted to see a pic of the PG sight picture but with the front sight in focus and the rear in soft focus??? Do you have manual focus on your camera :D

Beautiful gun can't wait for a range report and you photos are great!

Nothing like a finely crafted Hi-Power and nobody does 'em like Yost and the craftsmen at Heirloom Precision!

That thumb safety, the gold line sight, the checkering, and the overall execution all outstanding!

Thanks for sharing it with us. :D

Another great High Power from Ted! I have a couple and have been trying my darndest to not have one done in Hard Chrome. But alas I feel my resolve slipping :D

I hope you enjoy shooting it as much as I do mine.

You must have caught Ted at just the right time to get that checkering

Happy Trails... Walt...

One of the nicest I have seen. The only thing that could make me want to carry a 9mm.

I am glad somebody asked that. It was made in 1944 by "Uncle Bob" Riggs, an 80 year-old Washington state knife maker who turned them out for servicemen during World War II. My grandfather ordered one for my father, who was getting ready to go overseas, but it arrived a year too late and is pristine, never having been used. Riggs handmade the whole thing and stamped the blade with a big V for victory. He died in 1946, I believe.

Great backstory on the knife! The kind of knife you would love to atleast hold for a moment. I thought when I first looked at it that it might have been a re-worked Ka-Bar, but I guess the blade is a bit different. I love the handle on it! Envious..Lucky you twice :D

What brand and grade are the grips they really set off the SRT?
