Not a 1911 I know, but I remember a thread awhile back asking about custom Kahrs. This one was a pretty blue worn K9 I picked up at a gunshow for around 350.00. Mechanically it seemed fine just a beat up finish so I took it home. I usually work on 1911's and HP's so this was a little new to me. They have pretty simple internals that of course are much easier to take apart than put back together. I dehorned it pretty good around the slide, ejection port, trigger guard, front of frame, and of course the slide release. I recontoured and polished the trigger also. I checkered the frontstrap at 30lpi, I had no jig so I just put a plate up against the side of the frame and went to work. I remember now why I started sending all my frames to EGW, this frame is about 1/2 the size of a 1911 and I could still feel it in my hands and wrist. I also lightly beveled the mag well, polished the feed ramp and finished it in cerakote and meprolight night sights. I also cut down some 1911 hex head grip screws. The only new part it needed was a new recoil spring. The pictures aren't the best but I took them quickly this afternoon. Not a bad pistol now for only having around 525.00 into it.

Looks good, Sarge. Seems like quality has been up and down with these but when they're good they're really good-- just like any other gun I guess. I've had good experiences with these, personally.

Thanks for the comments jdurso and Mr. Christiansen. I've owned many different Kahrs over the years, I like the weight savings of the P9's but the K's are just so shootable. I wish I had better pictures to represent some of the detail better. It was having some failures to fully return to battery but the recoil spring was just shot, replaced that and everything was fine. The only other things I would have liked to do to dress it up was to have serrated the slide top and added wood grips.

Very nice, indeed. I am already a fan of the Kahr's and this is just one more reason.

Drake something very similar to my CW9 and I love it! I think it is the perfect carry anywhere piece...'cept for the 191, of course.

Very nice piece, sir, enjoy!

These guns usually have way more extractor tension than what's needed. I think a lot of Kahr malfs are due to this. I take the pin out from behind the spring and shorten it-- I don't remember the dimensions but it's by something like 1/3.

Good point, Ned.

Actually, that was one of the first things Drake mentioned when he had mine. His opinion was the extractor had way too much tension and would cause problems if not addressed.

My former PD had about 35 of the PM9's in service. Lots of malfs. Seemed the extractor tension might have been a contributing factor. Ned's idea with the shortened pin was the solution.

You did an excellent job! I am not sure I would want to take on that much hand filing either.

Great work. I'd buy it!

That's something else. You should be proud, the gun is transformed.
