The golfballed back of the frame and slide really took some doing along all them radiuseses. :D The whole pistol looks awesome, and super comfortable, great job!

Unbelievable Chuck. You have outdone yourself. Probably the best looking one yet.

Chuck,

You are killing me with the golf ball treament. Everytime I see one of your pistols it makes me want one so bad I can't stand it. Great work.

Thanks for the kind words all.
I will admit, I was a bit perplexed at the lack of interest in this build. To me, this is one of the finest pistols I have produced. Granted it is not 'classic' or 'mainstream'. But it is quite representative of my personal style and is not 'just like' the offerings of many other smiths.
Perhaps I have strayed a bit too far from the norm. Be advised that I plan on stretching the envelope far further in the future.
The knife started as an H&K Benchmade. My goal was to reduce weight and bulk to the absolute minimum while retaining ergonomic comfort and control.
Be well and visit LTW often!

I hate to think that you feel that there is a lack of interest. I would bet that most people (like myself) did not comment because we do not feel qualified to. The work is so far over my head that what can I really add?
However, what I have done is returned to this thread and enjoyed looking through your pictures again and again, each time noticing another cool detail. I am always excited when I see that you have authored a new thread.

This one reminds me of that car commercial where the old man shakes his cane and yells at the parked car "Slow Down!". With all the golf balls, radii, dehorning, ball cuts, bobtail and flutes that thing looks like it is going 100 mph standing still. That commander looks like a Lotus Elise (small, light and high speed).

What are the finishes on the frame and slide?

I like the way the golf ball treatment on the rear of the slide runs down into the upper frame cut for the beaver tail safety--cool!

Just thinking--you could weld up the hammer a bit and golf ball it as well.

I would chime in, it is hard to look at this and not go WOW! It is an amazing redention of the 1911 design. I am very impressed. I like your stretching of the envelope- and (while it is not worth much) I would encourage you keep thinking outside the norm like this. The way any art form moves forward is folks stretching the boundries and taking risk.
This is as "classic" as any more "conventional" designs we all love on this board.
At we are all at the start of a new century, it is fun to think about what the state of the art in custom hand built classic firearms will be in this century. I will wager we just saw a glimpse of some of the items that will be much more mainstream in the coming years.
There will still be room for "classical" designs, indeed they are continuing to be refined too, but one of the fun things in our world is seeing the new and unexpected- Bravo!
I love the Classically refined 1911, but I can now see that I may have to start skrimping and saving for a new gen gun!

Wow looks great! Along with the radii, the front bevel of the slide looks awesome! More of a bobtail with a bobfront too...

Lack of Interest? In a Chuck Rogers pistol? BLASPHEMY.

I'd be willing to put 3 brand new 1911 magazines that whenever you post a thread here @ LTW that 4/5 on this board click it first time we see it.

Its hard for me to understand how much effort was put into the back of that slide and the radiusing across the entire pistol..

I can barely cut paper in a straight line..

Cheers Chuck, from one of your many long time fans..

Very nice. What is the black finish? Is it just a matte blue or is it oxide over melonite or something like that?
