Every once in a while we get a customer who wants to have a pair of guns built, for a special occasion, for using, collecting, or whatever. Ted is quite well known for them, matched pairs that is... complete with cases and tools and all of finest trimmings. And although not exactly a “matched” pair, the gun featured here is part of a set of guns I did that together are probably best be described as fraternal twins.

The set began with a 38 Super Colt Government Model I built in late 2007. Shortly after taking delivery of the Super the customer sent a Colt Delta 10mm to the shop with instructions for making it just like the last gun. The only difference was to be in the finish with the Delta being done in nickel and fit with black stocks to keep with the ‘black and white’ theme of the last gun. Pretty cool... a composed pair of Colts in a couple of neat calibers. Fast forward to now and the latest addition to the set is complete...

Like its medium-bore twin this gun was a Best Grade build complete with a welded frame and slide fit, 30lpi hand-checkering front and rear, flattened and serrated slide top, complete line straightening, S&A grip safety, match grade barrel (in this case a Schuemann), a Legacy Custom mainspring housing machined into the frame, a Novak rear sight with a tritium front, and all the best quality internals throughout the gun including one of EGW‘s new machined thumb safeties. The only major difference between the two guns was to be the finish and the stocks with this gun getting a full nickel finish and VZ Operators.

Pretty cool to be able to do a “black and white” pair of Colts in different calibers, both guns made for a very fun project. Now all I’ve got to do is talk the owner into a two-tone 9x23 to make the set really interesting. Enjoy!

Great work!! love the way the 40cal/10mm has more to crown than the usuall 45, just gives it a little more to look at on the business end. Keep up the good work and i guess im gonna have to dig out the one ive had about 10yrs and start making some chip's. Your work is fantastic and keep it up!!

Jason,
Who did the leather for this lil' beauty?
If you know the Model's nomenclature or Style number I would appreciate it.
Take the gun AND the Canolis.

As we'd say here in the Great state of Texas, that's "Finer than frog's hair split four ways!"

The top of the slide is awesome, as it everything else, but you just gotta love the mirror finish on the barrel crown.

Very nice work!

The scabbard and the mag carriers are original Bruce Nelson rigs. The holster is his classic #1 Professional and the mag carriers are his #50 single mag pouches. Without question they are still to this day all serviceable rigs but I doubt I’ll ever put them to any real rough use other than for photos and such.
