Built in 1986. Looks like it was built by Bill himself, I called Wilson Custom and they were able to confirm this. Serial number starts with CLW (before the number)
70 series Colt Light weight Commander with a very nicely blued slide (polished flats, dehorned edges)
Aluminum mainspring housing (aggressively checkered, as is the front of the grip 30 LPI)
serrated front of trigger guard (30LPI)
Bo-Mar sights
Bar-sto barrel
full length 1 piece guide rod
lightweight aluminum trigger
Wilson beavertail
Swenson extended thumb safety
Commander style Hammer
Serrated back slide (40LPI)
Ahrends grips with colt medallions
Inside slide is stamped WILSON
Lower lugs are hand engraved 5 86.
Lock up is tight as a bank vault. I put 200 rounds of FMJ Ball reloads (230 gr) through it and it held incredibly tight groups. It is obviously a user/carry gun and will rest nicely in my CCW rig.
Even more interesting was the guy who I bought it from. We started talking after he saw my watch and asked if I was a small boat guy. I said yes and showed him my Riverine Squadron 2 Chiefs coin, he pulled out a Vietnam Gamewardens Coin. Turns out he was a Boat Captain on the SWIFT boats in Vietnam, our forefathers in the Riverine Community. So we sat for a few hours and swapped war stories. One of the most interesting gun purchase experiences I have ever had, and just adds that much more personal value to this pistol for me.
