Just before Hurricane Ike rolled through town, I was speaking with Jason Burton about a custom build. By the time my number was called, I had to back out. My loss...

At that time, it seemed as though he wanted me to go with a Caspian frame & slide.

My question is this - Because most of the base weapon internals get thrown out, do you prefer working with one of those base model pistols (Springer Mil-spec, GI or Colt Govt), or rather a blank frame & slide (as the Caspian)?

As I near complete financial recovery, I'm hoping to get back on his list or someone elses for a 'Signature Grade' build, and I want to know where to begin...

thanks all,

rasheed

Follow up question - If engraving (as from JR French) was included, would this affect your preference?

Lots of variables, such as what you actually want, what's available, cost, etc...

But if I'm doing the choosing, and it's to be a special gun, it's going to be a Colt. Let's face it - historically, how many images of really great custom guns that you've seen have really stuck in your mind. So much so that you can see them when you close your eyes - complete in every detail...engraving pattern, sights, checkering...

Now while your eyes are closed and you're seeing all those great guns, take a second look and see how many of them are Colts. Yeah I knew it

It's not to say a fantastic gun cannot be made on a Caspian, Springfield, or other quality components. That happens every day. I suppose what makes a Colt at that level special is all the hard work it takes to actually make a Colt look like our dreams of Colts expect them to look.

Just my $.02....

Ted,

THANK YOU! I can't tell you how much that $.02 helps me!!! I have a New in Wrap Colt built in 1982, and was just about to sell it..........

After hearing your thoughts, NO WAY!!! This is the platform for my Signature Grade...
