First let me congratulate you all on a great website. I was pointed to the LTW boot at SHOT by a friend and was very impressed. Fell in love with a Commander by Ned...awesome!...wanted to get a chance to handle it, but the booth was pretty busy (Was surprised to see the calendar girls in the booth next to you feeling lonely...not sure what that says about all the gun pron addicts at the LTW booth

To my question...I have three of my regular "working" .45's that have either Bomar's, or in one case factory "Para Limited" adjustable sights. I'd really like to replace them with fixed sights with Tritium inserts. Since you guys have done so much incredible work, I thought you might have some thoughts on what my options are.

I prefer the Novak's (or Baer's), but not sure what the impact will be from all the welding on the slide...or even if it makes sense to go through that much trouble. Any chance that the Heinie, designed to replace the Kimber adjustables can be made to work? Any other options?

Keep up the good work and thanks for your help!!

Buggs, I have a Colt that has the same problem - Bo-Mars but wanted something fixed. I checked with Heinie about his Kimber replacement working, and was told they tried it but no-go. Right now, the gun is still wearing the Bo-Mars, and the only solution I can think of is to make a new rear out of bar-stock. I think the welding needed would put too much heat on the slide and warp it, tho' I suppose the area where the existing sight sits could be milled flat, a block of bar-stock silver soldered on and start from scratch. Only other way to go is sell your existing slides and start fresh with new ones. Hope this helps,

John Jardine is offering a fixed version of his Valtro. The slide sight cuts are the same as the ones he uses for his "bomar" style sight. I am not sure where he gets them, but it may be worth checking out.

One thing to bear in mind when you start converting a Bo-Mar to fixed is the sight cut has to be for the exposed windage section, not the "deluxe or pocket" cut, or has to be converted to it so the sight can be drifted in.

I installed one of Heinie's Kimber sights on an STI slide cut for Bo-Mar's and it wasn't a desireable outcome - too many gaps between sight & slide. I'd suggest either getting someone to custom make you a sight to fit the slide (which will probably be pricey), or (better to me) - buy a Caspian slide, cut it for the sight you want and sell the old one (or keep it as a "set").

I LIKE the set idea. I think I agree with John. Get another slide, and have it fitted, then add the sights YOU want. Keep the original slide.... then you can have two to play with.

Yea I don't know anything about adding sights. Replacing a Bomar w/fixed may be a trick. W/r to the Valtro, I believe it was Soldier of Fortune that had an article last summer on the Valtro. The one tested had the fixed sight. It had a decent photo. If my memory serves me, it resembled an elongated Heinie. I spoke to J. Jardine about it last summer and he said it was made to fit in the existing cuts. Whatever you do, good luck.
