Hey all
I have custom Colt 1911's (race guns) with 20 & 30 Lpi. checkering on the front strap and msh. What's your thought on 40 lpi for a full house carry gun? Is it to fragile and scuffs up easy or should I go with 30 lpi.? I think 40lpi. is the way I want to go on the next build. :D

Thanks
Gary

I think 30 is fine, but I really want a full house Colt, and it will have 40lpi. It has to be felt to be appreciated.

This is a Colt Commander Ted did for me and I love the 40lpi. Only down fall is the old goats eyes will give out eventually.!!!!!!!!!!

These pictures don't do the checkering justice but I like a chance to get to show it anyways.

Hmm, actually after handling some guns at SHOT, I am partial to 20LPI or 30LPI serrations.

Personally, I've been very happy with the 30lpi that's on my frontstrap. My m.h. is 20lpi, and I always hated it. 20lpi is just too much bite for my palm. It even riped a whole in my glove from all the friction. Then again, you can always deburr the points a little to make it more forgiving. I did, but it wasn't enough.

As for you, I really think it's a matter of trying one in your hand before deciding what to get and how well your going to baby your new piece. I'm not too sure what a "full house carry gun" means, but if it's something that's going to be seeing alot of action and rough handling, I would consider the 30lpi or even stippling. Stippling gives a nice comfortable grip, can be made to grip more or less based on the depth of the stamping (similar to varying lpi in checkering), and is definitely not as noticeable to wear and tear as checkering would.

Then again, checkering is just so BEAUTIFUL. Well there's my two cents.

Here's a pic of my 30lpi frontstrap. You probably saw it before in another topic.

My custom has 30 on the front and 20 on the back. To my touch, the 20 has more bite (which I like). I've never seen or put my hands on 40.
