LTW Guns latest project package (#12) is up and ready!

This package is to benefit Hunting With Heroes Wyoming. Tickets are available for purchase at:

https://huntingwithheroes.org/raffles/

Hunting with Heroes takes disabled veterans hunting in Wyoming.

Hunting with Heroes is a non-profit and charitable organization founded by veterans to give back to disabled veterans. Working with Wyoming state agencies, landowners and volunteers, Hunting with Heroes Wyoming offers big game hunts and fishing outings designed to fit the special needs of each disabled veteran.

HwH WY was founded in 2013 by two US Army veterans and Wyoming natives, Dan Currah, a Vietnam veteran, and Colton Sasser, an Afghanistan veteran. Dan was keenly aware of how Vietnam veterans have struggled throughout the years, and Colton was deep in his healing journey after he sustained life threatening injuries in Afghanistan. Both knew hunting in Wyoming could be an intensive healing experience. Since 2013 they have helped veterans fill nearly 2000 tags in Wyoming. They have hosted veterans from all 50 states, ages ranging from 21- to 93-years old, and veterans who have served the United States of America in conflicts from WWII to Afghanistan and everything in between.

Hunting with Heroes Wyoming is about honor, healing, restoring hope, and saving lives.

Here is a brief description of this package and it's contributors, including the build sheet:

• We started with a base 1911 stainless handgun that was generously donated to us by Dan Wesson firearms.

• John Harrison of Harrison Design, donated all of the parts used by the smith’s for this build.

• Don Williams of The Action Works, fitted the grip safety, thumb safety, trigger, and did a complete trigger job.

• Ned Christiansen of Michiguns, Ltd., fit a new mainspring housing then did his FRAG treatment to the frontstrap and mainspring housing, then beveled the magazine well.

• Mark Graff of Graff Custom Gun Works, fitted an oversize ejector, blended the back of the slide, fit a match barrel bushing to a match barrel, crowned the barrel, and serrated and blended the slide stop.

• Tim Brian from CT Brian Custom, made high power cuts on the slide, flattened and serrated the top of the slide, lowered and flaired the ejection port, throated the barrel and polished the feed ramp, made custom grips from exhibition grade French walnut, and polished and bead blasted the entire gun and small parts.

• Doug Mosier of Glenrock Blue, Cerakoated the slide and small parts to give this a two-tone finish.

• Greg Graff of Graff Custom Knives, handcrafted a beautiful hunting/utility knife using 1084 steel for the blade and shaft and topped it off with grips made from the same piece of exhibition grade French walnut that the grips for the pistol were made from and brass pins.

• Finally, to complete this package, Rob Hipp (robhipp45@gmail.com), handcrafted a complete set of custom leather (gun holster, knife sheath, and spare magazine pouch).

What a great thing to find on the forum today! That knife! Those grips! The leather! Oh yeah the gun is pretty nice too....!

I love that the pistol and the knife share a chunk of walnut. Tim, if I tried to make those grips, well, a bunch of popsicle sticks rubber banded on would probably be necessary. Greg, that blade is a beauty.

Of course there was no doubt that everyone participating would do great things but still it's hugely satisfying to see it come together so well.

Thanks a ton to Dan Wesson for providing a very fine pistol to build on! We talked at the start about "where to begin"; I had developed a contact at Dan Wesson and was impressed with the DW corporate culture and-- with the DW pistols I'd been seeing on display at a couple police conferences and the Indy NRA Show. So, folks, get your tickets for this most worthy cause and if you don't win the gun but are in the market for one, give Dan Wesson a look.

Well there is a whole lot of WY goodness in this one. I would like to point out that MI upside down looks like WI which is not that far from WY :-)

For some reason Susan's link was not active for me so folks, try this:

https://huntingwithheroes.org/raffles/

I just "tested" it by buying some tix for customers and it's the easiest LTW raffle ever to get tickets for.

I know I speak for the rest of LTW when I say-- we are very proud to be able to take part in helping this most worthy cause!

Awesome pics Susan, thank you!

I hope this gets the broadcast it deserves. I've sent the link to everyone on my Email list that would be interested and had some very positive comments back.

Well, I have to say, however obvious it is already, that this is an amazing project gun, and for a worthy cause. Kudos to all the smiths, and to Susan, for an exceptional job!!

What a spectacular package. I figure I'll have a decent shot at it if I devote a couple hundred bucks a paycheck to tickets. ;)

"Raffle gun". Not "rifle gun" with an accent.... "raffle gun" .

Just sayin' guys and gals, don't forget this "one weird trick to get a high-end custom 1911 for $25.00", and benefit a really good cause in the doing of it.
Image

Check out Hunting With Heroes Wyoming.... what they do is simply awesome. It's an outfit well worth supporting, run by vets for disabled vets. Here's a bit about them from their site:
------------------------------------------------
Our Mission
At Hunting with Heroes Wyoming, it’s our mission to give back to our nations disabled veterans by honoring them with unique hunting, fishing and other outdoor experiences.
We offer a progressive healing environment where disabled veterans are welcome and supported – a community where they can discover hope again, no matter what battles they continue to fight physically or emotionally.
Hunting with Heroes was founded by veterans for veterans.

"I’m familiar with this program because we’ve had some of these Heroes hunt at our ranch. It’s a great opportunity for men and women who have served to have a special day, or couple of days, hunting and fishing."-- Wyoming Governor Matt Mead
---------------------------------------------------
Here's a link to the place where you can maybe get a tikky or two:
raffles - Hunting with Heroes
huntingwithheroes.org huntingwithheroes.org

There is not a cap on the number of tickets sold but your chances on this are going to be way better than most things in life! Raffle closes Dec. 1 and the drawing is on Dec. 5.

HWH is not a great big outfit but I tell ya they are doing great things in a big way. This from a recent correspondence with them:
"Over the course of the next couple of months we expect to provide approximately 250 big game hunts to disabled veterans — many who have been waiting for 2 years or more to hunt with us."

Help 'em out if you can and maybe gitcherseff a real nice package in the process.

I have five tickets to give away on this. I just have to figure out what kind of hoop I want people to have to jump through :)

.....Spelling contest? Well, peeple that can't speel deserve a chanse too..... anyway, Google.
.....1911 trivia? Same thing..... most of that could be searched.
......3,000-word dissertation on why we don't need more gun control....? That's preachin' to the choir and I don't want anyone wasting time doing that!
Pick numbers between 1 and 1000 and draw in a week? That might work.....

Any suggestions?

In the meantime...... not that many tickets have been sold. That's great news for people who want to get some now. Not great news for a wonderful charity that needs our support. For $25? You get something even if you don't get the awesome package, you get to help!

While I am the luckiest person anyone knows, I have a wonderful wife, great son, daughter in-law and grandsons the last thing I won was the Officers Model that Ray Harms did work on from a drawing on Park Cities Tactical. And that winning started me down this rabbit hole known as the 1911, my H&K's worked wonderfully until I pulled that trigger. I have sat on the sidelines and tried with several other benefit pistols here on LTW and just never got lucky. When I read about this raffle I knew I would buy tickets, I have a hard time passing up programs for our veterans. I might have purchased the winning ticket a couple of minutes ago, got a couple more as backup also. Don't let that stop you from taking a chance, beautiful pistol and accessories benefitting a great program, Good luck everyone...

Yes Ned, you got me for 5

Thanks

Just a reminder that the raffle for this awesome package ends December 1st. This would make a great early Christmas present for someone you know. It is also a great way to support some of our veterans who have given so much for our country and for the freedoms that we enjoy.

Just follow the link below to purchase tickets. They are one for $25 or five for $100.

Well I don't want to turn this into a big back slapping party but BOD plank holder Tim Brian does get an extra smiley face for putting LTW with HWH, which turned out to be a great outfit to to work with. It's hard to believe but sometimes when you're working hard at generating a check for a charity, they are uninterested and unresponsive. HWH has been great in every aspect and certainly a most-worthy organization.

Gonna single you out too, Mark, not just for the help on the project gun but also for arranging to have the companion knife made by that guy..... what's his name again.... oh yeah, Greg Graff! Can't say as I've met every Graff in your branch of the family but I will say that every one I've met is top-notch and it's been an honor being a friend of the Graff family.

If I recall correctly Mark, you also organized getting that beautiful leather set done by Rob Hipp, right?

And thanks to John Harrison for supporting the project with some of his primo Harrison Design and Consulting 1911 bits!

Hmmm...

I thought it was more like, “Would you see if Greg would build a knife for this project?”

Whatever variety of persuasion was used, the result was great!

I think the world needs to know more about Rob Hipp. Anyone....?

From HWH, BTW:

Many thanks to all who contributed to help us honor our disabled veterans. We made right at $15K on the raffle. In terms of how many veterans that will sponsor in the field—an average hunt runs about $750 (some can run more, some less, but on average about $750 per veteran per hunt)—so that would indicate your kindness will fund ~20 to 24 veterans next year.

You the ticket buyers are the fuel for this goodness machine, thank you for helping!

Rob Hipp... well he’s a Wyoming Game and Fish warden up north of me. I think I found his work on EBay of all places and bought a holster. I shot him a message and asked if he’d be interested in helping and he stepped right up...that’s about all there is to it. I liked the G&F connection to the cause! He’s on Instagram, and occasionally has work for sale, not sure if he’s taking orders or not.
