This topic is directed to the makers and to one's who have done this.
Over the years I have owned 2 or 3 Colt Ace conversions and found a real liking to them. :)
My question is has anyone made a new build and add the Ace slide to make it a set. Like an upgraded 45/22 set. Can you get new match grade barrels for the Ace? I would like to make a boxed set with this idea.
I have a older 70 series sitting to be hand crafted by one of our makers here and want to add the upper conversion. I know I'll have to talk to him directly but looking for others input now. :D
Thanks
G

I'll save you the dime, Gary :D

I've done a couple of this type conversion, and it works out just fine. Since it's a pain to perfectly fit two slides to the same frame, frame/slide fit is usually done for the .45 top end, and the best possible fit thereafter for the .22. As far as a match barrel for the .22, I'm not aware of one, but setting up the floating chamber correctly and putting a good crown on a factory barrel usually results in a gun that shoots way better than I can.

For real accuracy, you might want to consider the Marvel .22 unit. The last one we did was absolutely scary accurate. I've got .22 rifles that don't shoot as well! It's aluminum, but nicely polished and black anodized, it's really attractive. We make add-on top rails that can accept any sights, too - so youe not stuck with the Bo-Mar copy.

I hope the info helps - you can still call if you like!

Big +1 on the Marvel, Gary. They are serious group shooters.

I'm working on a Marvel right now and I'm totally impressed!

Marvel units are the best...Ted, can you make a replacement top end with Heinie Slant Pro sights installed?
