I think this is the gun the MArines are purchasing. Others have speculated that it is the non-railed version. The addition of the MC suffix leads me to believe that it is a Professional version of MC Operator:

Do you have a pic of the gun pictured that won?? I know there are pictures of the PC9111, but this order is for PC9111MCs. The MC suffix was affixed to the Operator with the shortened rail and the Marines specified a rail on the original RFP. Now this is purely conjecture on my part, but it stands to reason that this could be the gun, unless of course you know for a fact it is a different version. Pat Rogers didnt know if the gun had an integral rail or not.

I don't think Springfield is really interested in the 150 guns going to the Marine Corps, although $286,000 isn't chicken scratch. They are interested in the thousands of units that they will sell to SWAT/HRT units and civilian sales.

Head over to the 1911 forums and do a search on the Kimber Warrior. You'll see a bunch of posters who couldn't wait to get their hands on it because many assumed that they would win the MEUSOC bid. I am sure the Kimber is a good pistol (aside form those nasty gunner knockoffs) but I get the feeling that the gun will fall short of sales estimates now that Springfield won the bid.

The Warrior was not intended to win a MEU(SOC) contract. It is the gun that Kimber intended to submit for the MCSOCOM Det. 1 contract. Two VERY different things.

The problem is people can't seem to keep things straight and the Internet is a great source of mis-information.

Yeah but, if the Force guys in MEU(SOC) are going with the Springer, could this lead o other things? Also, word is that SOCOM has decided against the Marine Corps detachment, so is this the end of that project?

True statement, in this case it is okay, if we screw up which military detachment gets what gun we will survive. Not like having an accidental discharge into your buddy's thigh or something. :?

Alot of the service 1911's used by these various groups would make you cringe. The are generally a collection of parts put on the gun after some well...interesting fitting, Then if the gun runs it is a success. The finishes are usually a mix of polished blue, blue, parkerizing, etc...Again, they are happy to keep them running. Historically, the military doesn't like to spend alot of money replacing parts on guns they have already bought. That is why the armorers keep every single part they get.

The first guys to get these SA guns are gonna be shocked. Guns of like color, function and parts? What next a replacement for the M4? The millitary armorers gain a great deal of knowledge based on how many guns they look at. Most of the armorers aren't known for their prowess around the finishing touches of a military gun. But their ability to fit just about any part, and the number of guns they pop the hood on has created soem very knowledgeable people. Just my .02.

The gun is the New Professional Model with the light rail. It is the same features. It is in the new custom shop brochure that was recently mailed out.
There is a big difference between an armorier and a gunsmith. My uncle has several hardball and bullseye guns built by Jack Best who was an AMU armorier. These are in no way a pretty gun and by todays standards would be considered a hack job, but they will shoot under two inch groups at 50 yards all day long.

..... meanwhile, a chum's department scarfed 100, that is one-hundred, 1911's from the G through DRMO. I never even knew they were up for grabs until this, but have heard of other departments getting them too, since. They are all makes I guess. I've seen one-only, a fine-looking, low mileage Colt, picked out by the guy that made the deal. Negotiations are sorta underway for me to come down and give them all a checkup, but, since they got them for free, I get the impression the head honch objects to my quote of four bucks a gun to give each one an 18-point checkup, and to cherry-pick the best five or ten candidates for enhancements for their SWAT team. Yeesh. I'd almost pay him $4 each just to come down for a day and get a chance to go through them all (daydream: me in room all by myself for a day with 100 1911's, some probably rare.... I've snuck in with my pants stuffed full of Llamas, and I'm busy copying s/n's from some of the nicer department guns and stamping them into the Llamas; daydream number two, I've arranged them all neatly on the floor in three concentric circles, I'm in the center sitting in swivel chair going around and around and around..... comes a knock on the door, "Hey, how's it going in there, everything OK? We heard some giggling......").

I don't say for a minute that these guns would be better than the Sprinfields to fill this need, even if only used as base guns. Just interesting that apparently there are still gondolas-full of them somehwere.

Ned make them a deal. Your services for free if you can cherry pick one for yourself. Probably won't fly but it couldn't hurt to ask could it.

They couldn't if they wanted to. These are signed for and on "permanent loan" from the government, they may not dispose of them in any way other than returning them.

Just remember Ned - if someone comes in and sees you rolling around naked on all those 1911s you're going to have some serious explaining to do!

Thank you for painting such a pretty picture.

I need to go stab my minds eye with a spork. Back in a bit.

Hi, first post here. I just wanted to point out that the guy in the photo is a former(I think) Utah DPS SERT member. Strange that SA would use him in the photos. I saw a couple of other Troopers in their brochure for 2005. DPS SERT mostly carries Glocks by the way...as does the UHP
