I've been thinking about buying a Springfield Armory Champion, the GI version of this pistol, using it for a base for some mods. I was wondering does anyone have any feeling positive or negative about these? I have the 5" version in Stainless that has proven to be a best buy in my opinion.

I've built on a couple of Champions and they finished off to be nice guns. That said, I'd personally pick a Commander or that length Caspian because of the variety of parts available, such as barrels & so on is more plentiful for 4 1/4" length pistolas.

Not a huge issue, just food for thought.

I just picked up a mil-spec(or I thought it was) possibly to see if Stan might do some magic on it. Didn't realize they come with a ramped,bull barrel and a double spring recoil system. Oh well, will have to see what's said about this one.
