There are several alternatives, micarta, polymer and even Corian (yes, the stuff they use for countertops). Don't laugh until you see it/try it. :D

I have a set of Corian grips in a bone white color on one of my Les Baers, and I like the look and feel. Too soon to pass judgment on durability. Cost me a little less than $30. Wish the picture was better, but......

When my Series 70 Government Model (1972 era) comes back from Jim Stroh with some more work done, and one of his gorgeous bluing jobs, I plan to spring for the real thing - ivory grips from Nutmeg Sports.

I've got a set of Tru Ivory from Bar S Grips. I think they run around 70 bucks or so with the discount from Brownells. If you buy from them directly, they run around $90 I think. I've compared them to a set of real Nutmeg grips that I have and they're pretty close. When you tap on it, you can tell the density is slightly off from the real thing, but as far as pattern and texture goes, it's pretty close. I'll try to post a picture of them side by side when I get a chance.

Are the Tru Ivory grips cut for an ambi safety?

I'll second the opinion on the Tru Ivory, pretty darn close. I think you can get them cut for the ambi. I'm not carrying that particular pistol tonight, so I can't look to see if the cut comes standard or not. (The pistol is not ambi equipped)

Thanks, I am looking for non ambi grips. I don't like the cutout if there is no safety.

Third the vote for TruIvory. And you can get them "aged" pretty much as old looking as you would like.
