I realize that most people are either hot or cold when it comes to Damascus slides. I like the look especially after the
deep acid etching as it really gets the colors and texture to come out.

This .45 has a Caspian Damascus slide (finished by Gene Shuey in NV) and is assembled on a Rock River Arms Frame.
All of the assembly and fitting was done by Richard Neimer located in WA.

Slide:
Bo-mar rear sight cut with Caspian sight
Heinie tritium front sight and cut
Caspian Barstock FP & FP stop
Caspian Barstock ejector and extractor
FLGR and 20 LB wolff spring
Schumann Ultimatch AET Barrel (very accurate)
Deep acid etch by Gene Shey (this made all the difference in the world)

Frame:
RRA frame with 30 LPI checkering from RRA but touched up by Richard Neimer
Colt slide stop
Brown MSH 30 LPI checkering
S&A Grip safety
Brown thumb safety
Videki Trigger
C&S ignition set
Frame Bluing by Richard Heinie (this is who Richard Neimer uses for finishing)

Hmmm......., I guess I am too traditional. For me, the slide is distracting from the rest of the gun. However, I do appreciate all the great work and components that went into this build.

Could be wrong but it looks like it is a stainless slide with a treatment done no metal removed...am I right?

Yes, according to Gary at Caspian it is stainless and thus will hold up just fine to heavy use.

As you can see from the posts folks either like or they don't.

I will say that until you handle one done right it is awfully hard to make a judgment because pictures just do not give
you the whole experience.

They also look much different after the deep acid etch. Before that was done if you saw the slide from more than about
5 feet away it would look like a matte stainless. Even up close there is no texture and the different colors do not stand
out very much. With the etch the grain and coloration really come out and help to give the slide another dimension.
Gene etched this one to make the black stand out to complement the blued frame. The way he etches them largely
depends on the frame color.

Really neato!

I can't tell ffom the pics, is the 'black' lower than the other metal? If so, what would that do to the inside of a holster?

Isn't the 'smiths name Niemer? He used to be the in-house gunsmith for Olympic Arms; still there?

Yup, He was/is. He actually came to them from Detonics. He stays in the area for personal reasons. Most of his side work is for the folks at Pierce County and Ft. Lewis.

I like the look of the steel, but prefer it on a blade. :D
