I posted this on another forum but thought I'd go where the "smiths" are

Anyone using a bull barrel on 1911 gov't model....

I have a Colt gov't in 38super. I used it as one of my IPSC race guns it's comped now and has a older Clark ramped bull barrel. I'm thinking about replacing the barrel and have a make over..... converting it to a SD/CCW gun.....any thoughts on this?

Gary

My daily carry gun is a Colt .45 ACP Series '80 L.W. Commander with a Schuemann Ulti-Match bull barrel in it. I use a Briley reverse plug that has a "top lug" that closes the opening between the bottom of the barrel & the top of the plug. I also use a 1 pc. FLGR in it. With the bull barrel and FLGR, the muzzle flip is less to me than most steel Commanders in factory standard configuration.

I'd think there wouldn't be any problem with that, just replace the current barrel/comp combo with a new Schuemann bull barrel. Last I checked Schuemann made ramped barrels for both ramp cuts (Nowlin/Wilson and Clark/Para/Lissner).

I've got a Delta Elite with similar barrel setup to John's commander (Schuemann ultimatch AET bull barrel & Briley reverse plug/FLGR combo). Shoots really nice.
