A $500 base gun would not work just as well if it is not what you like.

What ones likes is not meant to be understood by everyone else.

Not wanting to induce any medical emergencies, but a quick pass through the safes here reveal One 95% Prewar National Match, Two 1968 NIB Colt AMU Governments, one as new 1968 Colt AMU, as well as a Pre-war .38 Super, a NIB 4 digit Colt LW Commander, and some other really NICE base guns. The ones I don't cut up, Jason will. And Yes, they'll be worth more when they're done.
Can I get a fiber optic front sight, finger grooved front strap, and front cocking serrations on that Pre-war National Match? I'd like it buffed and bumper chromed, too. Oh, and I want my name engraved on the biggest portion of the slide. In cursive. I have an Electro-Engraver pencil ready for use. (All things I've seen done to otherwise....high value(!) guns.)
I've got a great story about a VERY well known pistolero being cajoled into "engraving" a guy's name onto the slides of two sequential numbered O Models after a demonstration at a gun show. Did I mention he was wearing TWO pairs of borrowed glasses (from the crowd) while doing this? Let's just say he has a steadier hand on an aspirin tablet at 10 yards than an O Model slide at arms length. I wouldn't call a couple of O Models collectible (for another 50 years), but I'm guessing they'll be a LOT less easy to turn with 'Bubba Ray' scrawled on the side.

That is a beautiful pistol. What kind of finish is on the grip screws and firing pin?

On the matter of "collector" value, it only has that value if you ever intend to sell it. Of course I' m not a safe queen kinda guy. I believe a gun is meant to be used.

Had lunch with and spent a little time at Dave's today, pics DO NOT begin to do this gun justice. In person this is a real work of art.

Dave,

Simply awesome...reminds me of the 1911 you did up for Chromluv (mostly because of the threaded barrel and sights). Unfortunately, it also reminds me of why I stopped frequenting this site. It is the economics for me. Right now, I just can't afford to put forth what it would take to get what I'd want out of a 1911. I'm kicking myself tight now for even viewing this thread...a guy can always dream....some day.

Good on you bro....that is one sweet piece.

Any one can say something is a collectable but cetain items do not belong in safes or garages. I have a friend with a 68 Camero SS 396 and it never gets driven. If you purchase for future value maybe. My first gun was a S&W 28 4" in 1971 for about $120.00 I still have it but I shot it and have sent it back to S&W once for a make over. Personal chioces is what its all about.

Oh yeah Dave it is a great looking pistol if you need me to send it and I will break it in for you.
