What's your choice for a hard use 9mm and why?

My definition of hard use 9mm :) Caspian titanium frame, teflon finished commander length slide, Heinie Slant Pro Straight 8, solid trigger, bobtailed, serrated front strap, Davidson G10 grips.
Custom work by John Harrison of Precision Gunworks, photos by Steve Bailey.

Why? It's reliable, reliable, reliable, accurate, easy and fun to shoot. :) You can't hurt titanium or the G10 grips, teflon coated slide won't rust, 25LPI serrations on front strap help insure consistent grip but won't get dinged up like checkering.

Any Hi Powers by Ted Yost or Don Williams would be perfect candidates for "hard use" guns.

If so, a Glock 17. The original is still the best.

I love my Novak HP, and all of the guns shown in this thread are great. However, I think of a hard use gun as one that can use any ammo, no matter how bad, in really bad conditions. I won't put any +P in my HP's, and would hate like hell to bang them up, throw them down, underneath the pickup seat for months, etc.

As a retired law enforcement instructor, I have seen a lot of lead go down range. Many cop guns are not well cared-for. Of all the 9mms, the Glock stood up to the most abuse. No pride of ownership, mind you...

Hard use and abuse aren't the same thing.

Wish I could find a decent 9mm or .38 Super 1911 here in the PRK. All I see we can get are the pimped out nickel SA's and Colts, and the stainless and carbon "Enchaned" Colts.

My wife would kick my butt if I plunked down the money to build up one.

Hard use would be my Wickman BHP MkIII..... abuse would be my German proofed (slide and frame) Generation one Glock 17. :D

I always liked the H&K full auto symbol, but felt  would be more appropriate.

Greetings,
I have to agree with Randy too.

Primarily because own own one of those MP5K-PDWs 8)

ktmhk53

P.S. Can someone talk Lou into making a nice carry rig for it. The Eagle shoulder setup I have is lacking that certain leather smell...

You HAVE TO love the lines on a Harrison 1911! As usual, well done John! Although I am a die hard .45 man myself and 90% of the CC's leaving the shop are .45's, I've been getting alot more requests for 9MM pistols and I have to admit, after test driving them for final detailing, it's been hard to let some of them go! :D

John, you need to let a customer talk you into building a similar pistol in Ti! :D

Connor, if that's the one I handled at SHOT, your wish has already been granted.

This started out as an IDPA ESP gun but i have turned it into my everyday use gun. built on a SA by Hilton Yam it is the smoothest and most accurate gun i own. so far 20k rounds with ZERO malfunctions

Ed Brown hard fit barrel and 20 LPI hand cut checkering are just some of the goodies on this baby. the finish is rubbed off from holster use and my thumb riding the safety

Your imagestation pic only came up (for me) as a red X. But I figured out a way to view it anyhow. Was this the pistol you shot at the GA 04 IDPA State Match in Brunswick that you kicked my butt with? :)

Hope you have it with you at the Paul Howe class.

Hate to tell you this but we've had problems for over a year now with imagestation. I've been using http://www.hunt101.com and http://www.photobucket.com . They're much better.

Looking forward to see you in the class. I'll be shooting my other hard use 9mm. :)

This isn't a custom gun but it's one hell of a "hard" use blaster, 92G-SD.

In another life back in the late '80s I worked at a pawnshop and a guy came in with a pretty banged up G-17. Apparently he had it on his hip when he laid down his rice rocket doing about 50 mph. The whole starboard side was scraped, ground and looked like it melted. I took it in back to make sure that it still worked and lo and behold it happily banged out two mags without a single malfunction - but boy was that thing ugly.

THAT is hard use.
