Anyone out there ever replace the round commander hammer with a more traditional spur hammer on a modern semi-custom like Wilson or Baer? Does it work with the existing beavertail? Anyone prefer the look of the spur over the commander style? Any pix with a modern beavertail and spur hammer?

Chuck Rogers has done it. Look on the right side of the page.

You have to bob the hammer so it will fit with the beavertail.

A spur hammer can fit without modification on the Colt bastardized/hybrid/funky "enhanced" beavertail.

hoser4, STI makes a spur type hammer that's compatible with about all the beavertails I'm aware of. In fact, if you look under this section, Steve Bailey posted a pic of a Delta I did that has this in combination with a Brown beavertail. I believe it reads "Guns by DW The Action Works" part 2. Dated 17 Feb.

Hi Don,
Is it this one?

Interesting. I've never seen that one before. I was thinking a more traditional, even a military spur hammer, but this is one to chew on.

Does the STI or even standard GI style spur hammer have any disadvantages (like light strikes or snagging during draw)?

In the case of the STI/beavertail combo, I doubt you would have any problems, as the tip of the spur rests in the beavertail recess. On a standard G.I. type grip safety, I think you could, as clothing could get caught between the tip of the spur and the grip safety.[/quote]

Does this come in blue steel or just stainless? Can't find much about these -- not even Brownells.
