I had called the shop yesterday to ask about something, and Lew casually mentioned that he had shipped a package to me. Nothing specific, but I was not expecting anything from the boys (except maybe Scoutzilla  ).

So imagine my surprize when I discover that my old Colt series 70 was in the box. After I stopped drooling, 8) I called the shop to ask if Colton had built this one. The answer was yes.

Now Colton is a young man that has been working with the boys for a short period of time. He was hired shortly after my last visit to the shop, so I had not yet met him. We finally go to meet at the SHOT show (he's a personable guy), and I got to take a look at some of his work firsthand. He's been at this for only a few months, and he's doing some FANTASTIC work.

This pistol was a very pleasant surprise, and a wonderful example of his work. I'm proud to have this pistol join the stable, and thought that Colton deserves some credit... I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

I did not meet Colton at SHOT. My loss, as that is certainly a beautiful S70. I like the way he performed the serrations. Stylish, yet simple.

Great work!

Man, that is some beautiful work!!! I got a consecutive set of Colt 1* Elites Colton built. The guy at the gun store, who is was in the process of robbing me for transfer and CA DROS fees, wanted to buy one very badly. I told him to order one of the SAs coming up. Since we can only buy one gun a month here in the PRK, it will be 31 days before I can bring the set back together.

Beautiful, I really like the serrations. Very "clean" looking pistol.

John, Colton built your 1* pair, too.

We have two rules in the shop. Be nice, and do a good job. (well, there are a few that apply only to Steve, Ray, and Lew but we won't get into those  )

Colton's a quick study - he cares a great deal about his work and the customer. He can stay.

I was fortunate in that I got to meet and have several discussions with Colton at SHOT.

A man that shows talent and care in his work. I was quite impressed with the stuff he showed me. He'll go far.

For those of you that have examples of his work - hang on to them. The price of poker is definitely going to go up on his customs!

Colton is a great young man, and I look forward to working with him while in the shop. He picks it up quick and is always looking for an opportunity to improve. Nice work Colton. Now finish sweeping, take out the garbage, and clean my truck. :P

Always wanted to say that, but it is usually Lew who barks that.

It's really nice to see a young man like Colton learn the business. Of course it says a lot for the teacher, to be able to bring the talent out of a person.
Great looking work Colton, and Ted, you are to be commended for having not only the patience, but the ability to share your knowledge so graciously.
The only person I can remember doing this was Armand Swenson, with Wayne Novak, and look where Wayne is today!

Steve Bailey is another recipient of the talent shared by Ted, and Lew. The work you guys are putting out of that shop reminds me of the days when Purdy used to take a kid off the street, and handed him a file. That was of course, after he swept the floors for a year!

Colton, when you get this gunsmithing thing mastered, come to Buffalo, and I'll teach you how to make holsters.
Keep up the great work.

Lou

Very valid point, Lou.

That's a real "win-win" deal when you have the situation of willing to learn and able to teach. You're both fortunate.

I can only say "Amen" to what has already been stated, especially on the two points of this young man's excellent work and Ted's ability and willingness to teach. There is obviously a lot of really good stuff going on at Yo - Bo.

Uncle Lou-

I want to learn to build holsters, but I've gotten so I really don't like ice and snow, uh, could you, like, move to Virginia? :D

I'd work for half of what I make now, just for the opportunity to apprentice under Ted and Lew. Unfortunately I live on the opposite (North) end of the country from him. Well, there is the three kids to feed too. Whataya say Ted, after my kids are out of the house? Great work Colton, I wish you the best in your endeavors.

Yeah, this is EXACTLY what I want. Hopefully the Colt will be there this week.

Sweet, Theo
