Is lowering and flaring the ejection port on a 1911 necessary, or does a properly tuned extractor make up for this modification?

im not a builder. but i believe it doesnt hurt. its just supposed to aid in reliability of brass flying out and not getting hung up. thats what i thought anyway..

It also helps those that reload brass by not dinging it up on the way out of the ejection port, I think..

Lowering the port to a Colt Series 80 height is very helpful. Flaring the port is usually more cosmetic than anything else.
