Hi All
I have several custom 45 pistols. I just purchased a custom 45 Caspian with a Briley match grade barrel, Caspian frame. When I got the gun I was the second qwner but it had not been shot. The barrel had no marks so I'm sure it was only test fired. The gun was received at a dealer that had a range so I had some Win white box 230 round nose with me. The first round fed 2nd jam. Same thing on the next 3 mags. I called the maker of the gun and he was very nice. He advised the previous owner was a tinker and he could have changed the gun. The maker said send it back and he would look at it. I advised him if the previous owner messed with the gun then I did not think it was fair for him to have to work on it with out charging me. I sent the gun back and it was returned free of charge in less than a week. He said the gun looked ok but he polished the feed ramp to be sure. He advised he found the worst ammo he had and shot 2 mags full with no problems. His officer manager confirmed this fact. I'm very happy with the service. I the received gun today. I went out to the garage pulled out the factory Win white box first round fed 2nd jam. Got out a 2 box of new Win white box same thing. Got 2 other mags same thing. I went to closet and got 2 other guns same mags same non-feeding White box fed no problem to the other guns. Went to the bedroom pulled out a couple of crummy reloads back to the new gun same mags fed no problem. What gives? Maybe this gun just likes crappy ammo.

I had a Sig 229 that would eat everything you fed her except S&B. You fed a couple rounds of S&B and she would choke on every single round. I could never figure out why but it didn't really matter because I used stuff that it liked.

This has really been bugging me. I think the Briley has a ramped barrel (right?). The bullet is jamming going into the chamber kind a nose up. Is the due to chamber chamfer? I was reading on the Shumman site this is due to sharp edges. Is this right? Can I just polish the chamber a little on the sides?

TJ,

Is the white box Winchester all you've tried as far as "good" ammo is concerned? Remember that even though a cartridge is a ball round, it doesn't mean that the bullet profile is the same as every other ball round, and even Winchester can make an out of spec round. Not saying that is the case, but it may be. I'd try a few other quality rounds like the Federal American Eagle or Remington rounds... even some JHPs. To answer your question, Yes, guns are sometimes like kids. Every gun has its own personality. You can build two identical guns out of parts from the same makers, built using the same tools and attention to detail, and you may get two totally different ammo preferences. Also... are the magazines of the same make, or are they various makes and types? I have a 10mm that won't feed anything from MecGar or McCormick mags at all, but runs like a champ with Metalform mags. Go figure.

BTW - How is that Beretta?

Hi Jim

The Beretta is great. It is such a fun gun to shoot. Everyone should have one. I agree with your post. I'm going to go purchase some different ammo today and give it a whirl. I tried 3 different mags Wilson & Colt.
The same results. I ever tried 3 different boxs of ammo. They all had jams.

I just got back from the range. I went to the local ammo store and purchased some 45s. I purchased Remington white and green box, $9.00 reloads $8.00 and Wolf $7.00. The gun ran ok on some of the reloads but had a couple of FTF. I went to the Wolf shot it like a champ not one problem same thing on the Remington no problems. The gun is really accurate about 1 inch groups at 15 yards hand held. (The best I can do). I'm happy with the gun and the way it shoots. I guess I will have to stay with the cheap stuff.

Look on the bright side at least you don't have to give her the good stuff. More trigger time for you.
