My only 1911 is a Kimber Custom II Target. Recently I developed the 1911 bug again, so I'm having my gunsmith take out all the MIM parts and install a SA Magwell. Since he is tearing the apart to replace the MIM parts who's products should I put in. There are so many companies making parts (Wilson, LesBaur, CMC, STI..etc)

I'm also looking for a grip safety that when full depresses fits flush with the main spring housing. The Kimber sticks out a wee bit.

I'm pretty new to building guns so some advice would be great. The gun will be a nightstand, range and carry gun.

What ever ideas you would have would be great!!!

Thanks

I would go with your gunsmith's advice. You are spending money for his talent to install them, I'd think he would be glad to help you make a choice, based on what he has the best results with.

Thanks John, My smith has the gun but we haven't really talked about what parts are going into the gun other than the magwell. The replacement of MIM parts was just mentioned briefly, so I'm just doing my homework on parts :)

Have him mill off those butt-ugly forward slide serrations while he's at it
:D

The Brown high-sweep safety is one that does fit flush with no extraneous humps or projections. I'd bet that the frame will need some blending to match.

You're in luck because there are a ton of high quality aftermarket parts out there. Personally, I am partial to EGW's parts but I have had good luck with Cylinder and Slide parts, Caspian parts, Wilson parts and Ed Brown parts in several different guns. I have also heard good thinks about King's, STI's and Chip McCormick's stuff but don't have any first hand experience.

As John said, let your smith pick them. After all if your going to shell out the cash for the work you had better trust his judgement otherwise you won't be happy with the end result (JMHO).
