I'm running ACT magazines in my 220, what is the reputation of these magazines for the 1911?

45R, If you're referring to the ACT/Novak mags, I think they're great. The fit and finish of the magazines is first rate. I did swap out the followers recently to the metalform round top, and haven't been out to the range yet. I've tried Colt, Tripp CobraMags, and Wilson 47D's along with the Novak's, I feel they are very competitive with the others listed.

I have tried the ACT mags I bought from CDNN for $9.95 apiece in the following:

Colt 1991A1 Commander
Colt 1991A1 Government
Kimber Team Match
Springfield TRP Operator
Springfield TRP
Yost 1* Springfield
Wilson Protector
Springfield Stainless Loaded Target
Kimber Ultra Carry II
Kimber Ultra Carry I
A Robar customized 1967 Colt Government model

These mags have worked perfectly, and I mean perfectly, in every one of those pistols, everytime. I have never had another magazine that worked so well in such a wide variety of pistols, with a varied diet of everything from semi-wadcutters to wide-mouthed hollowpoints. They are the only 8 rd. mags I have ever owned that worked as well as any 7 rd. magazine of good quality. If you own a 1911 style 45, you owe it to yourself to try one of the ACT mags. And, I have no commercial interest in them either. I just think they're that good!

I have used the ACT/Novak, among others, with no problems at all FWIW.

Best,
JC

Several guys on the 1911 forums are reporting cracked ACT-Mags in their 1911's. They are cracking at the rear-top, just behind the headstamp of the cartridge. Most cracks are appearing at about 300 or more rounds and several guys that have bought their ACT-Mags at CDNN (I think they are listed under Armscore) have reported cracked magazines. I have 4 of the ACT-Mags that came with my SW1911's and I have noticed no problems in over 1000 rounds. Many suspect some of the lots were "over-hardened" in the manufacturing process.

Here is a link to problems with ACT-Mags. If you will scroll down, there are some good photos showing the location of the cracks.

Ooooh! Not good. I'm going to check mine for a rough finish at the cutout. Those cracks remind me of ones caused by a rough surface at a tension point. If that area is not smooth, it will be when I'm finished.

According to the importer PSI, a run of mags were made that were a bit thin after weld cleanup on the rear of the tube. They are moving to a slightly thicker tube that should clear this up, but the weld may be visible.

I really like these mags and for the money ($10 at CDNN) cannot be beat.

I like the stout springs and metal followers of this design. They had a parkerized magazine at SHOT that looked great.
