I don't know how many of you are aware of the Team Guns. All of us at LTW decided to put teams together and each team would build a gun. This is unique on several fronts. One, you will never see another like it. Two, these smiths won't work together for quite some time. And three, they won't work on the same type of gun again. So as far as the teams go? Well Team #1 is Chuck Rogers and Ned Christiansen we like to call them "Ched" Team #2 was Ted Yost, C.T. Brian and myself. Team #3 is John Harrison, Don Williams, and Stan Chen.

These guns are not and will not be marked LTW. When sold these guns will give us the ability to make another great showing at the 2006 Shot Show. Every smith donated time, labor, parts, and guns to put these together. It is increasingly hard to reach the charities we would like without a way to generate some funds to do so. So, we decided to do what we do best....build custom guns. This also gives us the opportunity to offer guns up for sale to you guys who might be looking for something you won't find at the local gun store. We decided for #2 we would concentrate on the ultimate carry gun. Hardy, concealable, and handsome. Polished flats on the slide with a blasted lower and controls. The best IMO in a number of ways.

From all of us thanks for the support. Many of us have made some fine friends and professional contacts through LTW.

This is Team Gun 2 by Ted, Tim, and I. It is a Colt OACP frame topped with a Les Baer Commander slide. It comes with a build sheet signed by all who worked on it. Test targets by C.T. Brian. The modifications are lengthy as all the guns will be. The lower half was done by Ted and I. Ted did the harder detailed stuff making the lower what it is, while I concentrated on the safeties. Tim went WAY out of his way on the upper including the barrel fit and appointments you see here. Hope you enjoy the picutres.

Couple of profile shots with a Randall Model 24 Guardian. Hard to go wrong with something like these two. The Randall was given to me by a very good friend who has a couple of guns coming soon!
Image

Image

The 40lpi hand cut checkering from Ted. Or is that 50 it is hard to tell from here.
Image

Couple of snaps of Tim's work. How is that for hand cut?
Image

Image

Theo crafted the Cocobolo stocks to match the frame exactly. These started out as a couple of rough pieces of wood. They served a great purpose. I concentrated on getting the grip and thumb safety fit.
Image

Tim did beatiful HP cuts along with dual french border....Yes two, one along the top of the slide and one along the bottom. An incredible touch.
Image

Ted's own touch on the slide stop along with a hand checkered mag release.
Image

A Kart barrel to top off what turned out to be a great set up.
Image

On the above picture you can see the spec for 31 degrees. That is the degree in which the feed ramp was cut. Anyway, easier to show you.
Image

Aside from some great work done by hand the machines came in "handy" as well. Some of Tim's work on the machine. Ted and Tim did some unreal stuff to this one!
Image

The nice thing about this gun is you can fill the barrel with water and take a swim inside the crown if you like. Or shave in it, whatever is convenient. How is that for complimenting bevels. Both done by hand by two different shops.
Image

Yep, it shoots. A shot of a couple of targets that will accompany the pistol and a copy of the build sheet.
Image

Just in case the new owner, whoever it is forgets who built his shooter, we decided to put our names on it. Didn't want to make it too busy so we went under the right side grip panel. In fact I think I will blow this picture up and frame it. This might not happen again. If you played professional baseball it would be like playing in the All Star game your second year....not a bad day.
Image

Since I get to write this stuff I have to say it was a pleasure and a privilege to work with two of my favorite smiths. Hell, they were my favorite before I knew what end the bullet came out.
If you would like to own this pistol please see the For Sale Forum.

That's wonderful. Someone will be very happy with that and the proceeds will do good things as well. Winners all around! :)

Can't wait to see the work from teams #1 and #3!

Thanks for sharing.

we are not worthy!
we are not worthy!

The Yost/Bailey checkering file combine with inimitable CT Brian style is hard to beat.

If that were a GM, your paypal account would be full right now :)

Thanks to all. I need to make something clear. Ted and I aren't that far apart in age. However, I can see much better than Theo. That being said I cannot hand checker at 40 lpi. Every time I think about trying I pucker up like a Prom Queen. I will and maybe it will be a Hi Power just to get over my fear...........Nah, probably not. :P

Steve's photography is most oustanding.
Very, very few guns could stand up to pics like these.

Chuck as much ask I like building, getting to take pictures of guns like LTW #1, #2, Ted's work, Don's, John's, and hopefully all the Team guns. Please feel free to send a gun down for snaps. Heck, I'd pay the shipping back.

WOW, That is one beautiful piece of workmanship. I like everything about that gun.
My hat is off to you guys for creating an heirloom quality piece. One hundred years from now, someone is going to be paying huge bucks for that gun!
Steve, your photography is absolutely incredible!

As we were building this gun it occured to me that appropriate leather can almost always be the deciding factor on how good your gear is. A gun worth several thousand dollars ain't worth spit if you can't conceal it. Because this gun was built on the idea of great concealment, reliabillity, and enough juice to do the job, I immediately knew what type of holster it would ride comfortably in.

Months ago I wrote up a post on the Alessi PCH. Jason Burton did a follow up and it appears that some people have purchased a few of these. By now there is a pretty distinguished list of pisoleros, so to speak who wear these on a regular basis.

Well this gun and a PCH go together like Martin and Lewis, and the builder of these is just old enough to see these guys at the Sands is Las Vegas years ago. :P Seriously, Lou Alessi is the establishment. There are great leather craftsman out there like Bulman, Brommeland, and Del Fatti. Any of their holsters would be a great compliment to a gun like this.

The beauty of this is a shorter grip area on the gun and a holser that pulls the gun close to you and rides in a position that a loose shirt will conceal. Commander length slide is .45, 4lb trigger, reliable, and topped off with a durable finish and hide. Enjoy the snaps.

A great gun, good leather, a Wilson magazine, a Randall knife and some good old fashion ball ammo will get you out of a good many shitty places. This setup just gets you out in style.

Tim, Ted, and Steve,

That is an absolutely beautiful work of art.

I have never before been able to justify a gun cost over $3000.00. But, after looking at the work put into this piece and the level of patience, skill, and talent involved, if I had the cash I would drop it on this one in a heartbeat.

Tim - Your slide treatment is growing on me like a weed. I really like the front of the slide, and the bevel you put on the bottom edge, while a bit radical for some purposes, really makes your guns unique and user-friendly. Your HP cuts on the front end and that especially "CT Brian" ejection port turn a plain Jane slide into a masterpiece.. WOW!

Ted & Steve,

What can I say... another home run. Magnificent work. I have a very special gun all packed up and ready to send to you guys on Monday. The bevels on this gun have given me some more ideas, and so has the slide stop treatment. This is going to be a tough process, but at least it'll be in the right hands.

GOD Bless you and yours, and thank you for all you've done for this forum and its charities.

~Jim Keeney

To the “Three Amigos”,

Very well executed and superb attention to detail. I love the dual “American Borders” I have not seen that before and it is a great touch. You guys went way over the top on this one. I would not want to be Team 1 or 3 as the bar is now set pretty high. Well done!!

What a pleasure it was working with Steve and Ted on this project. Look closely at Steve's pics - the attention to detail they provided is all over that lower. My hat is off to you guys.

Here's a couple of quick snaps I took before sending it back south.

I hate to be critical of work that is obviously of such a high caliber, so I'll phrase my comment as a question; why, when fitting an Ed Brown thumb safety, is the radius at the rear not matched to the radius of the frame? I see so many guns with tons of time spent on the details, but that mismatch is so common, and so obvious. Is there some non-cosmetic reason for leaving it like that? I've always preferred the Cylinder & Slide safety, because it matches the frame radius.

It looks pretty well matched to me:

If you take off more material then you have the hole in the frame showing.

The safety follows the frame lines much more closely in the engaged position. Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways.

There are positives and negatives to a lot of parts - that's what makes their selection an important part of the process. It pays to bear in mind that while you might not like a feature of a specific gun, your personal preferences might be repugnant to others. That's why they're called custom guns. Everyone can get exactly what they want 8)

Since I did the thumb safety I can address that. I could have cut a higher radius on the thumb safety. However, by doing that the hole where the pin goes in the frame would have been much greater. So I balanced both the best I could. No overhang and the radius is as close as I wanted it.

When you cut a higher radius and the hole shows some people don't like it. When you cut it like this one and it is not as high some people don't like it. This was not for one individual person but the person who bought it, is happy as could be.

This one is SOLD. Thanks guys this was a fun gun to be a part of and even more fun to work on. In fact I am working on thumb safeties today. :P

Another nice one!
You're killing me.

I have liked the Officer frame/Commander slide combo guns for a while now, but just got one (Kimber Compact) to try out recently.
Just as soon as I get it to feed, I'll be happy.

What a beautiful pistol, congratulations to the three craftsmen who made it, and to the lucky buyer.

The good news: I learned that a minor amount of drool won't keep my keyboard from working.

The bad news: Someone else bought this pistol before the second mortgage on my home could be approved.

Bravo, gentlemen, bravo! :D
