 Post subject: Yost-Bonitz 1* Enhanced
PostPosted: Wed May 11, 2005 11:45 am
About a month ago, I saw a 1* Enhanced pistol in the 'for sale' section. I've always been a bit drawn to the 1* series guns as I really like first-class carry guns. I picked up the phone and called Ted, who told me the gun was no longer available.

For about 30 minutes, something Ted said kept going through my head.

"Why don't you let us build you one?"

I liked the sound of it. In retrospect, I'm not sure it was Ted's voice I heard... must have been the voice of pure evil.

At any rate, I picked the phone back up and ordered my own 1* Enhanced, built on a Springfield GI series weapon. I added a few things.. a Kart barrel, Front Strap Serations and a Gold Line front sight. I couldn't be happier with the end result. The YoBo guys were great to work with, and Colton did a wonderful job with the build.

I was already hooked on custom 1911s, and I'm very pleased to add something from Yost-Bonitz to my collection. Enjoy the pics.

Here's that cool logo...

The fit of the barrel is excellent. A nice 'Snap' when you work the slide...

Bushing fit is just right. No tools needed, and absolutely no slop

Well done and thanks again guys!

Banker - nice looking rig, congratulations!

Is that an Ed Brown safety? I'm thinking asking Jim Stroh to take a standard width Brown ambi safety, and trim the port side lever down significantly (I'm one of those 15% of the population, a lefty) on my Series 70 Govt Model pistol when it goes back to him for a few more items and re-finishing.

Nice looking piece!

I'm waiting on my 2nd (3rd if you count a revolver action job) gun from Y-B. Some guy named Ray claims it is all but done. :P

P.S. Did you take those pics? My gun pics always stink. :(

Thanks, Pointman. Yes, that's an Ed Brown thumb safety. It's the full size model, not the tactical. They trim it down for carry. By using and trimming the full size model, it give you a bit more 'shelf' for your thumb. This is the first weapon I've had with this particular safety configuration and I really like it.

Yes Sean, I took the pics. First time taking guns pics since I got my new camera last winter. I was pleased with how they came out. Used my wife's leather bomber jacket as a backdrop.

I'm sure if Ray says your weapon is almost done, it is. He's probably just testing it out by carrying on his hip. You know, just to make sure everything's OK.

That's no problem, I always clean my new guns to get the cooties off. Image

Very beautiful gun. I've always like the 1* 'Enhanced' package with the frontstrap serrations from the 'Elite'...... :D

Yeah, that was my first thought too as I was reading that! About two months ago I talked to them about having the almost identical same work done on an NRM 1991 and they quoted me a 6+ month turn-around. Wazzup?

My guess would be that Colton was already working on a few "shop" guns and was able to make some changes to accommodate Banker. Kinda like being at the right place at the right time. Nice gun Banker, glad you went with the Kart barrel and other modifications to truly make it your gun.

I think I know that feeling. There's that little 'it's only a credit card bill' voice after I talked to Ted yesterday about the Champion. :)

Beautiful pistol, however. Congrats! Nothing like that could ever be evil...

Lenny etal,

Whoa, I sure didn't mean to start a mini firestorm! CYA is absolutely right on target. One of the few times in my life that I've ever been at the right place at the right time, so-to-speak. Ted had told me that Colton had these in the works and could adjust the specs on one to suit me. Trust me, I got no special treatment. The guys at YoBo have way to much class to treat any of you that way! :D

No fire storm here. I am happy for you and hope you enjoy the gun. It is a beauty. Just messing around is all. Sorry if it sounded otherwise.

Regards,
Lenny

No worries then. I was just afraid I had inventantly caused problems for Ted and the gang.

If any of you are considering one of these and are wondering about the utility of the gold line front sight, wonder no more... this is about the coolest front sight I've ever used. I can't stand night sights (but they're fine if you like 'em) and this really makes that front sight stand out. It's definately money well spent!

Banker did indeed call at the right time. In addition to the work on customer guns, we build in-house projects for sale. It's on-going, and each shop gun is started with no specific specs, just the basics. That way we can quickly accommodate the buyer's changes without starting a fresh project. These are batched in with similar projects, and are available upon completion. There are currently at least five guns available immediately - 1* standards, a Black - T gov't, Champion Enhanced 1* and a Commander 1* Elite.

We're working on getting the delivery times on package guns down to a more manageable level, and a lot of guns are going out much earlier than quoted.

BT, if your gun had come in 2 months ago, it might just be getting worked on right now

And not just package guns; from the sound of things from Ted and Ray, my Caspian is on track to get done about 2 months early.

Banker, that is a Beautiful pistol. This is my first post on this forum and glad it could be attributed to your posting of an awesome work of craftsmanship from Yost-Bonitz. I will be making my way toward my first 1911 purchase.....looks to be the 1* Enhanced with similar additions that you made. I will be calling YoBo shortly!

How does she shoot? I guess I already know the answer! Enjoy :D

Thanks leade45. I put about 200 round through it just last night at the range. It shoots wonderfully. Very accurate and absolutely no reliability problems of any kind (of course that's what I expected anyway). It'll be living on my right hip very soon.

I almost forgot, welcome aboard! This is without question, the finest forum of it's kind on the internet.

Nope, can't be so. Anything that nice that you can wear on your hip to save your butt has to be GOOD :D

Thanks for the welcome, Banker. Congrats on that fine sidearm. Be safe.
