Just bought a custom Combat Commander. I was told the work was done by the custom shop but upon calling Colt they advised the Custom shop had no records of it. The very helpful lady who answered the phone advised she could confirm that it was an employee purchased gun. She allowed that some employees would take their guns to the custom shop where gratis work would be performed. The gun came from within 10 miles of the Colt custom shop so it seems plausible. Anyone hear of such a thing?

Yes just a thing has, and does occur. It doesn't happen as much as it used to but I still run into "custom" colts in the Hartford area that the store owners will tell you the guy worked at Colt and had free work done on the gun.
