It seems that everyone offers French Borders on slides these days. In some cases, at the top AND bottom of the slide ala Mr. C.T. Brian. I have seen this done once or twice, and in both cases, the border was cut on a milling machine. For some reason, I have to believe that this was not always the case. Were the early (i.e. Mr. Swenson) French Borders hand cut on slides? Or, have they always been machine cut? If they WERE hand cut, how was it done? Engraver? Single cut bent needle file?

I can see where it would be pretty easy to do with a needle file and the proper jig to make sure your line runs true, but personally I've always machine cut mine. 'Course I'm kind of lazy like that....

Whether hand or machine cut, I am in awe of anybody that can do either.

With regards to Swenson I can say with 99.9% certainty he cut his borders on a mill. Borders by hand... seems a wee bit scary to me.

Thinkin' about tryin' it are ya' Wayne?
