There's an old saying - "you have to know who your friends are". We're fortunate to have Roy Huntington on the "A" list of friends in the gun press. Roy, more than any recent editor of American Handgunner seems to have a vision beyond blindly ingratiating himself to advertisers. He seems keenly aware that "interesting" handguns will sell more magazines than giving overwhelming exposure to the standard factory fare. After all, Playboy couldn't have achieved what they have by featuring average to homely women on it's pages. Even if they can cook

When Roy met with the LTW crew at SHOT, he mentioned a new publication, aimed at the LE marketplace, focusing on the best in equipment, guns, clothing, and training. Got our attention right away. After he'd been generous enough to introduce LTW to his readers, we felt that no favor would be out of the realm of reasonable, and when he asked if we'd be interested in doing a giveaway gun, we were all over it. Actually, Steve was all over it, and he volunteered me to put one together! Of course I jumped at the opportunity, because I envisioned working with Roy to be fun, and another good guy was going to get a nice gun!

Working with Roy wasn't fun. All he did was give me absolute carte blanche. No rules, no oversight, no telling me I can't do something  Next time I hope he gives me a little grief. I'll feel much better.

Thanks to a few of our friends, this gun will grace the pages of the first issue of American Cop magazine, due out in September. Dave Williams, Deb Williams at Springfield, Lou Alessi, Mike Vaiani at Pistol Leash, John VanZyck and Wayne Novak have all contributed to the project thus far. Hope you like it!

Now go out and buy a magazine as soon as they hit the newsstand!

Man, life just keeps gettin' better. We have had a friendly relationship with Trace Rinaldi for a little while now and we kept talking about doing a collaboration between Trace and the YoBo shop. Well when he heard about the American Cop gun he said "I can do something for that." After stopping in the shop a few weeks ago and looking at the gun he sent us this. It is one of the finest fixed blade knives I have seen. The detail is outstanding and absolutely built to last. Here is a photo with the knife and the gun. The blade is stainless with pure carbon fiber scales. Trace does beautiful work.

A chance at a Yo Bo gun and all I have to do is buy a magazine? I think I might just have to invest in a subscription to this new reading material. The more of them I buy the better my chance at winning right? :D

A perfect hard use gun! Do the new sights fit a Novak rear cut??? They look to be a bit more durable than anything else on the market. More great guns from AZ.

Gents (and ladies?),
Wanted to personally thank all of you for your support with our American COP project. You fellows are sterling gentlemen and it does my heart good to be associated with you. I think you'll find American COP to be in the same good humor and "Hey, we're just some guys" attitude that Handgunner has, with none of the baloney in the regular "cop" magazines. And if you read them, I'm sure you know what I mean ...
It's funny how a bit of honesty and genuine intentions can work so well, eh? But then again, you guys know that already.

Believe me when I say it wasn't hard at all to help you with your LTW project in Handgunner. Consider it an "annual" commitment from me, and don't be shy about taking advantage of it.
And thanks again to all of you who read Handgunner. Trust me when I say I count my blessings daily (sometimes several times a day ...), for being able to do what we do here at Handgunner. And now, American COP promises to be just as fun. Pinch me, will you?

Adios,
Roy Huntington

Ted, remember me? I like Plain Jane guns without many unneeded extras. I love that pistol. The bunch of you did very well on your project. Regards and best, Richard :D

Ted-

Looks like it would go real wll with my Ray Harms built SA 1* :D ! Not to mention a "Y" marked Kimber and a certain HP I hope to own. Besides that, one could never have too many pieces of Uncle Lou's leather work, could one?

Mr. Huntinton-

Since you're here, I'll go ahead and say that, based on how much I enjoy your current publication and your promise that the articles will be authored by folks with real life street-cop experience, I've already sent in my subscription. I just hope that not every article is based on the California, etc., mega-department experience but some are aimed at those of us who have had the honor and privilege to serve in sparsley populated rural jurisdictions. You know, with tips like "When you start out your career as a rookie, instead of trying to impress everybody with just how stern and aloof you can be, stop in the out of the way country stores and make friends. Besides the info you might gain, you can also create relationships that might come in handy later. " Aw shucks, it'll probably work everywhere, friendliness is contagious.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to the first edition. Even more so now!

Ted- Sorry about the ramblings.

Chip

Chip,
I promise we won't be California-centric. As the former Editor of POLICE Magazine, I understand what you're saying and it is a constant struggle. Some of the first articles will be:
Getting along with your sergeant ...
Are you a jerk on-duty? (sorta' that "get out and meet people" thing you mentioned) ..
"How to not get arrested" (directed at bad guys, and actually humor for cops) ..
And if I told you anymore, it'd spoil the fun. Trust me when I say you won't see the same kinds of articles in the mainstream cop press!
Meanwhile, thanks again for the support.
Adios,
Roy Huntington

Roy,
It is a pleasure to have you aboard. Hopefully the gun will make a splash in the inagural issue of AC. And a huge thanks for supporting all of us here at LTW.

SO here's a random question -- are those sights an item that anyone can order now? :)

Nice! I'm glad I was able to help out. It's kinda neat how you guys get people from different parts of the country to contribute to your fantastic outcomes. My door is always open...

JohnVZ,

Which one of your grips is that set? And for the gunsmith crew: are those Tripp magazines in the gun?

Wayne,

They are my new OPERATOR grips. Ted was the first to lay hands on them. Those lucky grips found one hell of a new home.

+1!!!

If those sights fit a novak cut, I am 100% on board! They would have to go on P34 in a NY second...

Yep P43 would be wearing a set too! Along with a couple of other 1911s I own. they look very durable and similar in sight picture to the Heinie/ Bomar type sights. I am also liking the Operator grips!! Nice work John, between you and Larry Davidson, I could spend a buck or two!

I subscribed to American Cop Magazine just a few days ago. I am not a law enforcement officer but, I think this magazine will still be full of valuable information. Plus the chance to win Ted's Custom Pistol he did for Springfield and the Cops magazine. That alone makes it more than worth while.

That knife in the last photo is of the finest quality. Trace is at the top of his game. When I photographed that I did not want to give up that knife. The pure carbon fiber is awesome. Thanks Trace.
