About a week ago, Ted got an interesting email from someone Ted calls a friend and a customer. One of the interesting benefits from this business is the people you get to meet. Sometimes you get off the phone or they leave the shop and it leaves you a little....well you fill in the blank.

However, not in this case. I have heard Ted get off the phone with Al Shear and mutter "what a good guy" I obviously say "who me?" He gives me that look and says "NO, Al Shear."

Al has recently hit some rough spots in his life as many of us do. Some of us throw up our hands and feel sorry for ourselves. Some people blame everything and everyone for their situation.

Again, not in this case. What does Al do? He donates a full house Yost Custom Operator that had gone unfired since delivery. It seems he could not get himself to shoot it. Al has donated this gun to us at LTW for a raffle to benefit others. Making sure I say that again. This is to benefit somebody else...not him. Al figured out a way to help others through their tough times during his...Amazing. I have said it before we have the best the industry has to offer from smiths to customers to forum members. This is a team effort by all of us including the members. The whole idea behind LTW was to give something back to someone who is less fortunate than us.

Some quick work and a few phone calls to our friends at Ted Nugent's Kamp for Kids and we are on our way to a impromptu raffle to assist in Ted Nugent's efforts to build a new kamp that will benefit kids less fortunate.

The Board of Directors at LTW have been made aware of this and immediately chimed in saying what can we do for Al? Well, keep watching.

I know we all get it....But Al Shear, really gets it. Al, from all of us who grind it out everyday. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. I will second what Ted said "what a good guy.

Keep watchin' for raffle details, dates, and other kewl stuff.

Here is some snaps.

DID I MENTION THE RAFFLE WILL INCLUDE AN OPERATOR HOLSTER FROM NONE OTHER THAN LOU ALESSI. SEEMS APPROPRIATE DOESN'T IT?

Yep, this is the Al I know and proud to call friend. He has been very good to me, is taking Jim Keeney under his wing when Jim moves to the Richmond VA area, and God only knows what else he might be up to doing for somebody else. He is a gentleman in word and in deed.

And I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for the raffle info.

I think I can speak for the rest of the BOD when I say my hat is off to you Al.

The generosity and selflessness that you have displayed here will benefit MANY over time. You sir, are a class act.

What an honor it is to have you in the LTW family.

Albert Shear is a good man. We are friends through the internet only as we live on opposite sides of the country, but he is a guy that I would help out in any way I possibly could.

Good job Al.

When I was doing my homework prior to buying my first Les Baer pistol a few years ago, I sent Al a private mail message asking him about one of his.

He answered the host of questions I had, eventually steering me to one of many happy 1911 purchases.

Some might say that this was a small thing, but I find it completely unsurprising that he would do something as generous as the donation described above, for a cause benefiting someone less fortunate.

A loud and thunderous "Hooah!" is in order for Al, along with the blessings he most surely deserves.

Bravo.
How unique and refreshing, an incredible act of generosity when things are not going well.
Truly inspirational.
Truly inspirational.

May the heavens smile upon your situation and the example you set for us all.

Jim

Wow! Not knowing his situation all I can say is that this is a very nice gesture by Mr. Shear; and on top of that it is a very nice pistol as well.

Will be looking forward to the raffle.

Best,
JC

Well, I'm simply awed and don't know what to say. I thank everyone for the kind words. Everyone really needs to give kudos to Ted and the guys at the shop for the hard work its going to take putting this all together. They deserve it. My hats off to them. I did the easy part.

If you are in need of an IWB to go with it, let me know. I would be happy to donate an "Uncle Lou" IWB to match the wonderful CQC/S that Lou made.

Wow!
I've said that same word a hundred times as I look at the guns here, but I'm saying it for Mr Shear this time.

Wow, again.

If I wore a hat, it would be off to him.

Al Shear is the kind of man, who, if a friend called him for help in the middle of the night, would show up in his PJ's!

A better friend, and gentleman would be damn near impossible to find.

The good Lord broke the mold when he made Albert.

As an aspiring pistolsmith, I find inspiration in the fine craftsmanship by the smiths here. But, with LTW that inspiration reaches deeper, it touches my soul. Al's selfless act just reafirms that sensation. Thankyou, we all could learn a thing or two from Al. God bless, I hope things turn around for you Al.

Hello,
A pragmatic question. Is the pistol Cal legal. Operator does not appear on the DOJ list.
Thank you.

It goes back to the conversation I was having with a gentleman in Michigan. I live in Indiana and we traded guns. The transaction was smooth and he was honest and forthright about his gun. We decided there is a special breed of people The firearms owners of America and I am proud to be one and be associated with people like Al.
You are sir a true gentleman.

According to the Ca. DOJ it is. Under the model number PX9105ML.
It expires later this year and SA has to resubmit another example for testing.

The line from the list reads:
PX9105ML / Carbon Steel Pistol 5.0" .45 ACP 10/25/2005

First, let me thank everyone for their kind words. Second,I do not feel I warrant them. All I did was donate a gun. The people here at LTW are doing the really hard work. Their own business's plus this charity work. They deserve the praise. They work the hours to feed their own families THEN they put in extra time on this labor of love. Helping others less fortunate. To know they all give unselfishly of themselves inspired me to do the same. Third, I could have written a check for what I could afford. That would have sent 10 kids to camp. Donating the gun helped build a camp. Simple economics. Fourth, Jim Keeney saw the same goal and made the connection and donated a shotgun to make it a package deal and more enticing. He also donated a pistol for the next LTW build. Mr Keeney gets it. Fifth, and last, it is not about me. It never was.
God bless,
Al Shear

As i mentioned i already have sent my check for 15 tickets.

Over on a CA gun forum it has been posted that DOJ says no its not legal to buy this gun and bring / Ship to CA.

If this is the case and a CA resident wins, he/she will be SOL. I am hopeful the info posted on the other forum is incorrect.

Andy

Andy,
I do not live in Ca. and all I did was cross reference the Operator model number PX9105ML from the S.A. site to the Ca. DOJ site. That number does show up on the list. I am by no means the expert on this. I could be wrong.
