On the Hi-Power the slide-lock axis pin that comes out about a half centimeter from the right side of the gun - is it necessary for any reason to leave it this long? Mine hangs up in and out of holsters and appears to be a bit longer than on other Hi-Powers. Could this protruding portion of the pin be shortened by half. Simply reducing the protrusion by half but still leaving a 1/4 cm protruding (the narrower part that pushes the guide rod ball aside to replace slide-lock)??

My theory is that is was made that way as a firing pin removal tool. Checki it out, it's just the right diameter and length to depress the FP so the stop can slide out.

If that's not an issue I'd say grind it off and be glad you did. I always kinda hated that little protrusion m'self!

Before grinding that end off, try pulling the slidestop out using the left side only - not always easy

Ned, I have to know, what caused you to consider, and they try, using the slide stop bar as a firing pin plate removal tool? There must have been some really slow times in Casa Christiansen in the past. Or else you were caught at Second Chance without tools.

I don't recall the article but it was quite a while ago, it was mentioned that the slide stop is also used to remove the magazine base plate.

Ted is right that you need some protrusion and the fact that I no longer have to use a small sharp screwdriver to take out my firing pin thrills me. I just want to reduce it a bit so it doesn't snag on holsters so badly.

As usual LTW is the place to go for the real skinny!

Thanks for imparting more wizdom to a lost mind!

Ned, that is one heck of a way to start any story; "There I was getting my BHP ready for an IDPA match in Venezuela....." I could write an adventure novel just using that as a start.

All the shooting adventures you've been on, you sure don't need any of my material for a novel!
