I just put money down on a late 1970's Series 70 Colt Combat Commander. It will probably be a month or so before I pick the gun up as it was a totally unexpected purchase. The gun was a duty gun for about ten years that belonged to now retired cop. He used it to pay for some gunsmithing in a local shop. As Series 70 Colts (and just Colts in general) are becomming hard to find in California I jumped on it. The slide frame fit seemed kinda loose and it is begging to be refinished. Could you guys post some pics of your custom Colt Combat Commanders? I'm looking for ideas. This gun had a spurred hammer, is that normal? Thanks.

Commanders come with the rounded, serrated hammer. You can find Commander pics on any of our websites, I'm pretty sure.... happy shopping.

KevH,

Here's a shot of mine that Dave Sams built. I've seen quite a few unique one's on this forum, so your options are only limited by your imagination (and budget). Combat Commanders are sweet.

KevH,

Dave did all the work on this gun about two years ago or so. Here is a link to the original post http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/vie ... saved+flag. He's built every gun I have so far, and I have no complaints at all. I talked to Ted a while back about Dave's style and how he's not really know for being an aesthetic details kind of guy. Because of that, my first few guns from Dave weren't all that detailed externally, simply because I was amazed at the fit and function of his guns alone. After getting on some of the forums and seeing what other builders were doing on the outside, I asked Dave to do it for me. He never batted an eye, and when I asked if he'd ever done it before he said, "A few times, but not many GIs or bullseye shooters ask for ball cuts and borders." I can say without a doubt that Dave's builds lack nothing in terms of fit and function, and he can do whatever you dream up when it comes to details. You simply have to ask. That being said, I have three guns in Arizona right now at the Yo-Bo shop. Two are for Ted and one for Steve Bailey to build. It will be my first try with any maker other than Dave since I met him, and I'm anxiously awaiting the day I get a call asking to confirm a shipping address. That's a while off still, so there's no rush. If you're interested in what Dave has built for me, just search my name for Dave Sams and see what you get.

Good luck in your search, and GOD Bless.
